Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

Let me frame my argument this way: 85 wins should be enough to clinch the NL Central -- arguably the least competitive division in MLB for three years running. Neither Hamilton (at his best) or Milton (at his worst) can effect the outcome. Narron, as he has proven, can, and will.

Harang exits and so does lead
Bullpen hit with five-run eighth inning
BY JOHN FAY | [email protected]

Aaron Harang pitched well Wednesday night, albeit briefly by his own standards.
He was pulled after six innings, giving the bullpen a one-run lead to protect for three innings.
Let's just say it didn't quite work out.
Todd Coffey and Rheal Cormier combined to give up five runs in the eighth and the Reds fell to the Houston Astros 7-2 before a crowd of 13,772 at Great American Ball Park.

Narron: All players will be held accountable
'Playing the right way' applies to everyone, he says
BY JOHN FAY | [email protected]

When Reds manager Jerry Narron benched Edwin Encarnacion for not running out a popup, he set himself up for questioning every time a player doesn't go all out on a play.
The issue came up Tuesday night when Brandon Phillips watched his drive to center field in the eighth inning before running hard. Phillips, largely because of his speed, ended up with a triple. Narron spoke to him about the play, but didn't take him out of the game.
"I'm just interested in guys getting to the base they're supposed to get," Narron said. "There's a big difference between not leaving the batter's box and admiring a home run, I can tell you that."

I agree, but the NL Central has represented the NL in the past 3 World Series, winning one (while being swept twice...:tongue2: ). Not a bad finish for a weak division.

I am basically complaining about his inability to stop striking out. Not about him going 1 for 5. Dunn is off to a great start this season but is still going to strikeout a ton. But I am going to hold of on my praise of Dunn until I see him batting over .260 come august.

If your using BA to measure Adam Dunn then you are always going to be dissapointed.

Look at walks, runs, HR and RBI's. Dunner is one of the top offensive players in the NL. Better yet look at his peers on the HR totals by age list....lots of HOF's.

So far on the year Phillips has hit in the 1,2,3,5,6 hole...

Hamilton has hit in the 1,2,4 hole...

Dunn has hit 2,3,4

Griffey has hit 4,5

Hatte has hit 2, 5, 6

It is just ridiculous how much moving around Narron does...

Yeah it has worked out so far, but Freel and Hamilton had a nice little thing going with the 1-2 thing but tonite he puts Hamilton in the 4 hole, Dunn in the 2 hole and puts Phillips who is a far cry from a 3 hole hitter in the 3 hole...

I am beginning to think that he just puts the names in a hat and pulls them out...

So off my soap box and to the game, Phillips is finally finding his swing, and hamlton just continues to hit the shit out of the ball...Just missed that homerun tonite, by about a foot, and got a double...Also nice job by Freel to draw that walk after getting behind 0-2...

Hamilton Does it again...He already has the team lead in homers and he has only played about a full week of games...

It is just amazing what he is doing...

Completely unparalleled in the history of the game.

If he can keep his demons in check this kids talent is off the charts. Most raw talent I have seen since Bo Jackson.....and Hamilton has 10x the plate discipline. Amazing.

I agree, and his bat speed is incredible and he knows how to spread the ball around to all fields...
