What skill set in a current star USC player that you would say, "no thank you - you may be talented enough for August through October, but we have cold weather games and you would be a liability if we offered you?"

Outstanding point. You said in 30 words what it takes me 400 to say.
Clearly Florida is faster than Georgia this year.

Its about 340 miles to miami from UF.

About 180 from Ann Arbor (that whore) to Columbus.
.

According to google maps, it's closer to 284mi from UF to Cryami, and 190 from Cbus to AA(whore). Not that it's that big a deal.

Meyer certainly did it in Utah and Bowling Green.
Last time I checked - it was fucking cold there.

And he recruited the kids for the system. They adjusted and grew stronger (as 18-22 year olds tend to do)
Good point, but see below.

Returning to this post, and disregarding my earlier smart ass reply :p, I can see the schematic difference you would have in a cold weather game (more pound it out running game eliminating turnovers), but help me out with the "put together" comment. What skill set in a current star USC player that you would say, "no thank you - you may be talented enough for August through October, but we have cold weather games and you would be a liability if we offered you?"

As for the USC player: None. My point is that for that pound it out running game, you may need a few different players, such as bigger RBs, more than two FBs, and a couple TEs that run block well. Maybe taking up as many as six or seven schollies that could've went to project wr/scat back types.

Also, I don't know how I got so caught up in the weather. Another point I wanted to make was the ease of which most students (imo, the more vocal, "better" fans) can get to their teams bowl games. Though tOSU's fans travel with the best of them, most I would argue, are older alumni types. It's pretty damned expensive to catch a flight to any of the major bowl locations durning bowl season. USC students could pedal to the Rose Bowl, and a rather large portion of UGA/UF/BAMA students would find reaching Florida is a bit easier than it is for tOSU students. Just a thought.

There are so many errors in this claim and logic-chain I don't know where to begin.

I am granting you the fact that a southern or western school would struggle to adjust to the cold weather and it would effect play.
However - you do not explain how Ohio State (or any Big 10 team) is at a disadvantage when playing in warm weather. You've won Rose Bowls in the past right? 2002...in the desert right? 2003...the same desert right? 2004...indoors in San Antonio right? 2005...back to the desert correct? You went to Austin last August and won correct?

Using your logic. Ohio State is at a significant and measurable disadvantage by playing in 75 degree weather or indoors and that is simply false. I reject that.

Again - just come right out and say it.
You want to play in an environment where your team is at an advantage. That's fine, I don't blame you for it.
But I will call you out when you say a team from one conference has an advantage over another conference in mild weather when history says you are simply WRONG.

Logic? You want logic? Here's some logic; from 1890 to 1960 the dawgs never left Dixie. Now what would be the logic behind that? Perhaps the same logic that kept Jim Brown at home while the rest of his Syracuse teammates lined up for a Cotton Bowl game, or the logic that kept South Pacific from ever playing south of Washington DC. You want more logic? How's this: No SEC team has ever won a National Championship playing outside Dixie. Or this: the home team advantage is a consistent 7 to 10 points in Vegas. Hmmmm, I wonder what that could possibly mean ( and please, Gator, don't try and tell us that Florida, playing in the Orange Bowl, would be disadvantaged if the opponent was from north of Kentucky and west of the Mississippi.

Logic? Logic tells me that geography is an advantage and therefore needs to be balanced out. If SEC and Miami fans just can't seperate themselves from where half of them were born, tough shit. Fair is fair. If Favre can play football in Green Bay so can the SEC.

We have a few of them at work, fans that are all about USC for football, UCLA for basketball and calls us the Suckeyes, or the Luckeyes, or whatever is the current term the media has planted on us.

Though, I was wrong about one of them, coming into the USC game this guy kept telling me to take my OSU shirt off, or that my sweatshirt was ugly. I had been getting it from all angles, and that work week was hell, so I told him "Whatever front runner, at least I stand by my team for all sports." He laughed at me and said "I went to USC" I said "sure you did, let me guess, you played for the team too?" Sarcastically. Well, the next day he brought in his rosebowl ring and jersey. After the game he didn't have a lot to say, he just said "Sorry man, I really thought it was going to be a lot more than it was... That kid you got wearing #2 though is freaking amazing, that Pryor?" I told him yeah and since we've been on pretty good terms.

Had we played tOSUin the Orange in 06 under the same facts, the Buckeyes would have had more fans in the stadium that Gators as well, given the weeks head start on tickets.

The LSU game? You have mostly LSU corporate fans buying tickets early in the Dome. You would not have had huge number of Gator fans buying Orange bowl tix before we edged Michigan. Would not have been a sea of orange and blue in there in 06.

Cinci - not always true, but certainly could be true more often than not.

Hang me for one out of 80, OK, I deserved it, but Glendale is South of the Mason - Dixon line. And Alabama may have won an NC at the Rose Bowl in the days of Dixie Howell and Don Hutson. Oh, the later also proved that you could play football up north during his long career with the Packers as did Bart Starr.
