RB Maurice Wells (Official Thread)

The third down conversion he had was one of the best plays in the game I thought, firstly because Smith did a hulluva job avoiding the rush, and I definitely didn't think Maurice was going to get the first down but he showed how good he is in space like everyone has been saying, overall that was an excellent play all around and kept a scoring drive alive if I'm not mistaken.

Mo Wells can be wrinkle for this game. With all the talk about Pittman, Troy, Teddy, Beanie, Gonzo et al.. Mo Wells is a forgotten dangerous weapon.
yes he is, love wacthing him get into gear and scoot across open field coming out of the backfield as a reciever.. he'd be a good option at slot reciever depending on what we are trying to accomplish, although it seemed ray small was starting to take on that role

Maurice Wells says he is contemplating a transfer

GLENDALE, Ariz. ? One of the happiest days of Maurice Wells' life was two years ago when he announced on national television during a high school all-star game in San Antonio that he was going to sign with Ohio State.

Today, sitting in the University of Phoenix Stadium with Monday's national championship game vs. Florida looming, the sophomore running back revealed that he is having second thoughts.

Stuck at third on the OSU depth chart behind Antonio Pittman and Chris "Beanie" Wells, he said he is contemplating a transfer. It would possibly be to a school in the Southeastern Conference or the Atlantic Coast, he said, but added that he hasn't made up his mind on transferring. He said he is enrolled at OSU for winter quarter.

Maurice Wells, who in two seasons has rushed 107 times for 370 yards, said he spoke with coach Jim Tressel and Dick Tressel, the running backs coach, about his plight.

Should Maurice Wells, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., transfer to another Division I-A school, he would be required to sit out next season. He would have two years of eligibility.

Honestly it may be better for Mo to look elsewhere because he has simply not found a fit in our offense. He cannot run inside and our offense cannot feature a back who cannot run inside. Mo can at best be a 3rd down back and good return man but never a starter at tailback. Even if Pitt leaves, Beanie will likely start and either Boom Herron or Saine will end up beating Mo to the #2 spot because of their style. Maybe Mo can try as a flanker.

I really feel bad for the kid because he was such a stud coming out of HS and that has all sorts of expectations built into it. If I were in his situation, I'd be totally crushed if I did not end up a starter by my junior year.
