RB Maurice Wells (Official Thread)

Anybody remember when Coach Tressel put Matt Wilhelm 2nd behind Fred Pagac at MLB in the spring/summer of 2002? That lasted a long time, didn't it?

Wilhelm was a senior and Pagac was a RS-junior...not quite the same.

MoWells is a better back than many give him credit for. He played well in the little amount of non-garbage time he had plast year.

I wonder how much of this is based on what people saw in the Spring game.

You know... MoWells runs straight ahead for little to no gain. To be honest, it wasn't an impressive performance--at least on the surface.

He did a great job on pass protection (as has been mentioned a few times). I was amazed that he could hold his own against players with such an obvious size advantage, not to mention momentum. Remember, too, that you do NOT see the field on Saturday unless you can block.

Does anyone believe for a minute that Maurice Wells would be used this fall in the same way we all saw last weekend? He seems happy to throw himself into the fray between the tackles, and he's had some good runs there, but it won't likely be his forte unless he has decent holes/cutback lanes with which to work. Hopefully, those holes will be there in the fall, when he's got our best line in front of him. Regardless, however, this in terms of getting him the ball in space, and see what happens.
It seems logical that the miniature Wells would be an absolute terror when it comes to screens and swing passes. Heck, try it out on NIU and watch them try and keep up :)

...I don't know if I managed to do anything but re-spout others' blatherings, but I sure feel better now.

...And how the heck DOES he manage to block those behemoths???

You can't help but pull for Wells. He seems to be working his ass off, and doing everything that he's asked to do. He's fast........very fast, and needs to get the ball on cutbacks and sweeps this season. He's not an iso kind of back, but knows how to make big plays when he gets past the LOS. He reminds me a bit of Butler Bynote.

I'm glad everyone's praising Mo Wells for his work ethic, but Chris Well's IS the back. He didn't get that many shots in the S&G game, but when he got the ball you could feel the electricity in the crowd. this kid is something special.

no...Tony Pittman IS THE BACK... understandable that cWells has the size of a big ten back but you are expecting way to much out of a true freshman... instead of reading way to deep into the spring game let the man develop and then be excited....

There are those that are hating on Mo Wells.
This just pisses me off. :pissed:
The young kid has done nothing to warrant this behavior.
He played last year like a true freshman.
He came in a wide eyed, skinny kid.
I'm sure the level of play was tough on him.
This year, he's bigger(190) and stronger and has a better feel for the big time college game.
His natural talent, backed by a year in college football will allow us to truly see what kind of football player he will be.
Give the kid a chance for christ sake!

Step 1: Go back one page
Step 2: Scroll to the last post
Step 3: Check the signature picture
Step 4: Look a bit harder next time
Step 5: If there are any complications with Steps 1-4 please stab yourself with a rusty butterknife

Since the first post on this page was from April, I'm willing to give Weston a pass on this. Why would one expect that scrolling to a page with posts over 3 months old would show a picture taken this month?
