RB Maurice Wells (Official Thread)

Mo Wells?

The problem with maurice's situation is that, based on what he has done in college so far, how many D1 college programs will offer a full scholarship for a player with only two years of eligibility left? He may be able to find a home at a school like Jackson State (ala E. Haw), but there are still no guarantees for playing time. If he stays, he is assured of at least four years of free education at The OSU and a useful, albeit limited, role on a team that may be ready to make a run at another national title in 2008. Things may be disappointing at this point, but would he really benefit from a transfer? You tell me.

supposedly the coaches and players have both been told by Pitt he is leaving after the game Monday. I would think Mo already knows what Pitt is planning on doing.....

Agreed, I read a comment by Pitt that basically said that he was happy with the results that he got back from the NFL.

From a football standpoint, I'd hardly call that benefiting, especially since Mo Wells' ran for 171 yards on 46 carries in 12 games played this year. The only possible benefit that JaJa may have gained from transfering is that he may have been more comfortable and had a better student experience at UNLV as opposed to TOSU, and you'd have to ask him that. Otherwise, there was no clear benefit from what we can see. Plus, in hindsight you have to think that JaJa was lucky to get a schollie from UNLV (actually, I don't even know that he did). That's my point, Mo may have a hard time finding a schollie at a program worth going to.

Riley and Wells were national level recruits who left their hotbed home states. Haw was a mid-level player who stayed home before deciding to jet. I think Jaja and Mo are better known through the country and that Mo will be able to find a 1-A scholarship at a place like UCF or USF.

Perhaps, and I certainly hope so for Mo's sake, but if you're the HC at one of those schools and you watch the game film of Mo's production (granted in limited carries) behind our offensive line these last two years, just how excited would you be to pick him up (for just two more). His high national recruiting ranking combined with his coming from TOSU is enough to get some looks, but what puts him over the top? I don't mean to bash the kid, but I haven't seen it.

P.S. Please don't label me a Mo Wells hater! I've enjoyed every play of his career, just as I enjoy watching everyone play, and I'll cheer for him no matter what he ends up doing. Hopefully he'll stay and make our offense that much more dynamic over the next two years!

A school like UCF will easily offer schollie to a kid of Mo's caliber. Mo Wells is a great talent and has no baggage. He just had the misfortune of not finding a place within our offense. For some of the Big East or C-USA schools, speed and athleticism are at a premium. If Mo can look around he'll surely find a good spot. I see him fit very well into a spread offense a.la Steve Slaton where he gets to run in space.

its kinda sad he doesnt get to play more. he is an excellent player and he had some good runs against indiana and cinci this year. i think he is able to run between the tackles even with his size but he is rarely out there with the starters and hes not out there enough to get the experience enough which is unfortunate. this is why i said in the offseason that this is the downside of having too much talent on a team. best of luck to mo on whatever he does but i hope he stays.
