RB Maurice Wells (Official Thread)

I HOPE I"M WRONG .. but so far, I'm less impressed with him this year than I was with PIttman last year. Could I be wrong, yes ... sure he looks fast ...

16 rushes = 42 yards against subpar teams. Not impressed .. but like I said I hope he changes my mind ...

If he shaved his head he would probably gain .1 of a second on his 40 time. :p

True, but he would also lose 10 lbs (i.e only weigh 180).

In basically garbage time, especially against Miami when they knew we were going to run the ball. Even against SDSU when he was getting a couple carries earlier in the game, our blocking didn't give him many openings (see osugrad21's earlier post), but when they did he got good yardage. His 13-yard burst up the middle was impressive.

Exactly, most of those carries were in garbage time and when our second/third team offense was in, and we were just trying to run out the clock.

Mo looked good against SDSU the other day when he had blocking, hes really shifty and quick.

The thing that strikes me about Mo is how happy he is to be there. The kid's got a smile on him a mile wide. Now, I know that's not saying much about performance, but if he's out there having the time of his life, I'm pretty sure he'll end up being a team leader and produce.

He runs hard and i'm looking forward to watching him develop.

As much as one can get from watching in the Stands... I think Mo Wells is not too far behind pittman as our best RB. He does need to mature a little bit before he's a solid number 1 but i think that, like ginn last year, can happen in a few more games.

There is one play i remember him hitting the hole with the ball secured at the same time i thought the ball was being snapped. This dude looks very exciting.

........

also, i need to say i'm not ripping on pittman for all of you that seem to take me wrong. He's probley the one that has impressed me most this year on offense.

This is one of my all-time favorite interviews, especially his expression when he says, "I'm going to Ohio State." :)

the reason people are impressed with him is multi-faceted... first off, he's a Parade All American, who rushed for 3000+ yards and 31 TDs his Junior season in HS, a feat which had not been accomplished in Florida since Emmith Smith was playing... another reason is that he is very football savvy, as evidenced by his arrival to campus with not only the playbook memorized, but with the blocking schemes and blitz pick-ups memorized as well... he runs hard and fast, his feet never stop moving, and he has excellent vision to go along with his lateral quickness...

aside from the nice 13 yard run, i would like to see a vid clip of him picking up a blitzing LB, and completely flipping him over... quite frankly, the kid is special... i said it before, and i'll say it again: i would not be the least bit surprised to see him take the starting role before the end of the season...

I agree with you there. The kid runs with passion. If he got the reps that a starting back got and played at more opportune times during the game, I think you'd see him with more. After a little more work and maturing I think we're gonna see something special...(hopefully)

Hell, why not give the kid a shot. Pittman has really improved, but is not durable enough to handle 80% of the carry's. Now, you want to see me get a really big chubb in my drawers, wait untill Beanie Wells starts plowing people over next year!
