RB Maurice Wells (Official Thread)

I know Haw's carries came against SDSU's backups, but it was encouraging to see him tote the pigskin.

Hopefully he stays out of the doghouse enough to get some meaningful carries for us. Here's hoping Haw can start to take some of the burden off Tony, thus leading to a fresher Pittman come crunch time.

I'm not a football analyst by FAR, but can anyone tell me why hopes are so high for MWells? I, as a football watcher, haven't seen anything impressive. Maybe he's doing something technique wise or decision wise that is impressive that has flown under my radar?

I'm going to post a clip of Wells' 13-yard carry later. He's going to be a good one. Haw's sole carry was also pretty good, in that he showed his speed and power on his 6-yard gain to the left sideline. If our backs quit tap-dancing before hitting the line...

I know it's pro, but that is exactly what made the difference for Thomas Jones this weekend, too. Once he quit starting every run with a sidestep and hit the hole hard directly, he ran all over the field this weekend...it makes a huge difference if the back can do that.

His feet, burst, and vision are exceptional. Notice how his feet never stop moving and his eyes are always up...instead of running up his OL's back. I'm anxious to see him in open field one time...

Much of that was due to the zone stretch we kept running saturday...

He has a ton of speed and racked up a ton of yardage in Florida...led the state in rushing as a junior IIRC and was a pretty highly thought of recruit.

He's had some good runs this year, his motor keeps running and he doesn't seem to go down all that easily even though he is a little guy. If he can break some tackles (lowering his pads would go a long way) he should put up ridiculous numbers as a Buckeye

Independent of what we have seen - which is very limited - our previous (and well respected) recruiting coordinator described him as the best RB prospect he had ever seen. He also was heavily courted by USC - a team which pretty much get its pick of prospects of late. He destroyed the state of Florida in total yards as a Junior.

None of those are resons to say he is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but all are reasons to have high hopes that he might give sliced bread a run for its money.
