RB Maurice Wells (Official Thread)

I agree with LV this kid already does one hell of a job picking up blitzes.

Right now His cutback on the zone play is a split second to late, he is getting tackled by the shoestrings, when he starts to get that cutback lane, b/c I know he is seeing it, watch out, Those 3 yarders are going to turn into 15-20 yarders.

On his 13 yarder he was reading the blocks perfect. I also love the way that he is trying to plow people over and get in the end zone, especially on that option play on 3 down close to the end zone last saturday.

He's getting tripped up because defenders are shooting the gaps and getting to where they shouldn't be. On his 13-yard run, he had sufficient (actually good) blocking support.

Yeah the o-line is doing good at the point of attack, but struggling to get off to the second level, That is why that lb had 18 tackles.

There are times when the cutback lanes are there and he is just a step slow, same with Pitt too.

I also wish our Te could drive block the guy either to the outside or inside instead of being stalemate at the line and not letting the back bust it outside.

The lanes have to be "open" longer than a half second. I'm in the process of putting up the clip of Wells' 13-yard burst (it should be up by the time you read this, seeing as it's 3:00 a.m. Ohio time as I'm typing this, you should be in beddie-bye). His quickly spots the hole, changes direction, and explodes through it. If he could consistently get decent to good blocking, watch out...

nice clip, as usual, Mili...one thing that immediately jumped out at me was how Troy sold the pass... the LBs and DBs first moves were all backwards... if we can keep the D's first step going backwards, the running game will take BIG strides...
