RB Maurice Clarett (B1G Freshman of the Year, National Champion)

Clarett would be stupid to declare himself eligible for the draft if he won the case. He hasn't played a down in an actual game for nearly a year, and it will have been over a year by the time the draft comes around. He needs to stay for his junior year and play, for several reasons: To get back into competitive playing condition and prove he still has "da skillz", and to prove he can put the team ahead of himself.

Clarett may not be like Phillips or Moss, but he has come from worse than those 2. It isactually comendable that he has stayed clear of the things that have been a part of his family. His bro is a big time drug dealer, not spreading rumors, he just got busted up here (it was on the news, this is news worthy how?). So for what he was raised around he turned out pretty good.

I sure hope Mo get's things turned around. He still has time to make the right decisions and become a great "comeback" type of story. He was on the cusp of greatness. A beloved football star in a state crazy for football. A great undefeated freshman season (though plagued with injury) and BigTen & national championship. Heisman trophies and glory awaited until he started acting like a child. He went from a player everyone loved and loved to watch to a poster boy for what is wrong with college athletic today. It sure would be nice to see a young man learn from his mistakes, take ownership of them and then choose to get back on the right path. Seeing him do this at tOSU would be a bonus, seeing him do it at all, is all I'm hoping for.

I would love to see Clarett in a #13 OSU jersey next year. The NFL rule, however, is stupid in that Ross, even though he is younger than MoC, is eligible for this upcoming draft while MoC is not. So much for safety being the underlying reason. Clarett also needs to understand that trailblazers have paid a huge price throughout sports history - Curt Flood knows that all too well.

am i the only one scared to death of the possible rammifications of MOC suiting up for the buckeyes next year?

he didnt exactly shy away from taking monies playing by his own rules before.....this time he would have almost nothing to lose and could put tOSU football program in deep trouble for a long time to come.

by the time next fall rolled around he wouldnt even need to worry about his school performance and if anything did happen he could sign with an agent asap....

a few good games under his belt and he has the world by the tail........

just my pessimistic view..

Oh believe me, if he does return, I think I'll probably be holding my breath every game, every time he's mentioned in the press, and anytime a problem comes up.

I guess my position is that if Geiger, Tressel *and* his teammates will have him back, then I'm perfectly content. And from a selfish fan perspective, with him we play for the title again this year. So having him back next year would be (1) good for him, IMO, if he handled it properly, (2) good for the team if he's handled properly.

lol, I think I'm hedging my position so that I'm mentally prepared for both possibilities.

clarity, thats exactly what i was doing from the other perspective....too funny......

i would love to be able to say a decade from now that moc got it together, the bucks took him back and everyone lived better for it....thats the best outcome for the whole scenario.

My view on the Clarret situation is as follows. Maurice has made many dumb decisions, and has burned many bridges. That being said I do believe in second chances, IF, mind you that is a BIG IF, he demonstrates to the coaching staff and his teammates that he is capable of keeping himself under control and being a team player. Maurice is a talent, we all know that, in some ways it is hard to not lament him. In other ways, mostly selfish whats best for the team ways, we all want him to come back and play another season at OSU. Lets be real here folks, most of us have an underlying belief that Maurice would be trouble for the 2004 squad, and most of us would hypocritically cheer for him, but for some reason we all would love to see him in that backfield for one more season. I guess I am guilty also.

I had heard that he dropped his suit against the university. Is this true, I have never seen or heard anything to confirm it.

Also to side bar a little bit has anything been said about some of the other players that are in legal trouble? Holmes etc..
