I actually had the opportunity to talk to Sean Taylor about that play...he told me Maurice whispered in his ear and said, "They don't make dumbells big enough for me to curl."

Y'all saw what happened next...

You mean he was curling Rich Rod?????

The Associated Press: Clarett asks judge to travel to pro tryout

Former Ohio State tailback Maurice Clarett is asking a judge to allow him to travel to try out with a football team.
Clarett pleaded guilty in 2006 to aggravated robbery and carrying a concealed weapon and served 3 1/2 years in a Toledo prison. He is attending classes at Ohio State while living in a detention facility in Columbus.
Tim Jackson, bailiff for Franklin County Common Pleas Court Judge David Fais, said Monday that Clarett's attorney had filed a motion asking for Clarett to be allowed to travel. A review was tentatively set up for later in the day.
TV station WSYX reported on its website Monday that Clarett wanted to try out for the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League.

Give it up already! You had your chance or several and the fact is you blew it. Glad you're not in the Pokey anymore, but I wouldn't mind never hearing about you again with the "possible football aspirations". I would be more impressed if you get a degree from tOSU and be productive in society. Omaha I mean come dude....really?

I know I said earlier that I hope to never hear from him again, but let's be truthful about this: As of right now, Clarett is not doing anything to make us pay attention to him. He has simply enrolled in college and asked a judge for an opportunity to seek work. We are hearing about him right now because the press is reporting on it. They're reporting on it not because Clarett is trying to be noticed, but because people like you and me create a demand for the coverage. The coverage will go away when we stop clicking on his threads and following links to stories from the Dispatch and other similar outlets. In other words, you won't hear from Clarett again once you finally stop seeking him out.

Also, at this moment Clarett's best shot at being a productive member of society might have to involve playing football - even if it is at its lowest levels. It's the one marketable (legitimate) skill a person in his position has.

Dude messed up, bad. He did his time. So now you're gonna tell him he can't do something he could potentially become successful at, or at least know he gave it a shot?

Emphatically agree! Because...

1) We all consistently demonstrate by our participation here on BP that above all else we value and support those people who quietly graduate from tOSU with degrees in physics, journalism and theatre, given that that's the focus of this website.

2) The NFL and other pro sports teams should only be populated by ethically, intellectually and spiritually developed individuals such as Mike Vick, Ben Roethlisberger, and Lawrence Taylor.

3) Many of us have been duped into reading this thread (and thus unwillingly hearing about) Maurice Clarett's possible football aspirations due to the deceptively misleading thread title "RB Maurice Clarett (official thread)".
I for one wish to protest this blatantly callous chicanery by the mods & admin of BuckeyePlanet.

Maurice Clarett has paid his debt to society and through recent conversations with Maurice, his lawyer and his family, we believe he is sincerely working at turning his life around. Because we believe everyone deserves a second chance, and because Maurice wants to see whether he can still play the game he loves, we?ve agreed to work Maurice out as soon as the Ohio courts allow. There are no commitments other than we want to help him take positive steps towards being the good citizen and solid family man that he aspires to be.

Maurice Clarett to try out for UFL
Associated Press

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Former Ohio State star Maurice Clarett believes he's ready to make another run at professional football.

Clarett received permission Wednesday to leave Ohio to try out for the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League. He served 3? years in prison for having a hidden gun and holding up two people outside a bar, then spent 4? months in a community-based, lockdown dormitory.

Looking fit and relaxed in a gray suit, purple dress shirt and dark purple tie, the 26-year-old Clarett did not speak before Franklin County Common Pleas Court Judge David Fais.

As he was awaiting an elevator in the hall after the seven-minute hearing, Clarett nodded yes when asked three questions: Did he welcome the opportunity to try out for the team? Was he physically ready to play pro football? Was he relieved that the judge granted his request?

Then he left to meet with a probation officer.

In asking for Clarett to be granted 30 days in Nebraska for the tryout, attorney Martin Midian said, "We would like the court to not consider this as any special treatment, but as a job interview -- as would be the case for anyone appearing before this court who might ask for such an opportunity."

Ohio State coach Jim Tressel sent a letter to Fais asking the judge to grant the request.

"Please allow this letter to serve as validation that Maurice Clarett does indeed have a legitimate opportunity for employment with the Omaha, Nebraska, team in the United Football League," the letter read. "Please consider allowing him to travel out of state to seek this opportunity."
