RB Maurice Clarett (B1G Freshman of the Year, National Champion)

Well the article doesn't say specifically but I would guess he would be on the main campus, admissions tend to be a lot more lax for older people (ie not right out of high school) + the fact that he already earned credits there. It says in the article it was the College of Human Ecology that granted him readmission, so I'm assuming he's picking up in the program he left off in.

Regardless it also certainly doesn't seem like the most conspicious place he could be

Intelligence was never MC's problem. He had solid h.s. grades and a respectable 1200+ on the SAT. Decision making was the problem. Hopefully, the last 7 years have taught him a lesson about the latter and will allow him to take advantage of the former.

I wish him the best. If he does turn it around and make something of his life, it'll make for a hell of a book and reflect very well on Ohio State for having gave him this second chance.

Maurice was the final piece that put the last national championship together, so maybe his return foreshadows another.

From a totally selfish perspective, I'd love it if he'd have a blockbuster, successful life now. It would make watching the NC game so much more satisfying, not having to think how badly it turned out for him.

We all wish him the best.

But you just know he will merit a special segment(ESPiN/ABC) the night we play Miami on national television. :smash:

It is somewhat ironic or coincidental that the very next time we play Miamuh, Maurice is back. I can't imagine how surreal the whole thing must feel to Maurice.

Would you mind elaborating what you mean by this?

I mean it's easier to get into Ohio State if you are applying when you are 30 as opposed to when you are 18 under the assumption that you have more work/real life experiences and are likely to be more responsible in the class room because you are paying your own way, obviously in Maurice's case the real life experiences may not have been exactly what they have in mind.

I didn't mean to imply that he did poorly in school, I was just providing potential answers to the question. The fact that he was taking classes in prison probably helped him out too.

Very interesting. If I ever happen to reside in Ohio again, then I'll have to look into this. It would be a (repressed) dream come true to receive a degree from tOSU.

Well I mean the absolute easiest way to get a degree from tOSU is to attend a regional branch for a year (they accept anyone thats graduated from an Ohio high school) and then transfer to main campus if you want after a year/45 credit hours and at least a 2.0 GPA

From what I understand to get in in any quarter other than fall is much easier. Rankings are based on fall admitance.... The act scores and gpa's count for ranking purposes that quarter only... and how they graduate in the next 5 years. I got in on a spring quarter with a 2.5 GPA at a JUCO and no ACT score to speak of. I was told I could never get in on that during fall. So high schoolers who fall short are given the option to go to a branch or start winter quarter...

Serious question here: Does the university have a policy regarding students who are convicted felons? Why am I under the impression that is common at most universities?

Most universities (Ohio State likely included) ask the question on the application, and such applicants are likely subject to additional review and decisions are probably made on a case-by-case basis.

It's possible he was re-admitted on a conditional basis as a result of his past conduct. That is not something the university would be allowed to disclose by law.

Even with with re-admission to the university, there will be programs of study that will be off limits if they require a criminal background check as part of admission to the major.
