RB Lydell Ross (official thread)

What does MoC have to do with anything? as for Lydell, so he went to a strip club. big deal, if anyhting the media made a mountain out of a molehill and the story died pretty quick since there was no story.
the media blew something up!?

compare/contrast lydell ross and maurice clarett...

i also like the idea of a big brother program... its a win win program i think

I always liked Lydell as a person. As a sports writer for the Lantern covering my first Buckeye practice, Lydell was the only football player or coach who actually seemed to enjoy the interview and questions I had for him. It was a spring practice in 2002 and I was writing a story on the running back competition. He was genuinely interested in the story I was writing and talked with me individually for about 10 minutes. He wanted to know when the story would be printed and who I had interviewed. He even said he couldn't wait to read it. I asked him to sum up the competition in one word, and he said "i have three words for you - All out battle." That's how I led my story.

He may have lost that battle to a young freshman whose named I can't remember, but he's won the war in life. Making it to the NFL is the dream for most college freshman, but it's how you handle not fulfilling your biggest dream that shows your true character. He was a team player that I really wanted to see be successful. When he gets his degree, he and his whole family should be proud that he truly did succeed.

Lydell Ross didn't set any records at Ohio State. He didn't make it in the pros. But he seems very likely to make it in life. I sincerely respect the way that he is turning adversity into a secure future.

Lydell you ran the ball for the best football team in the world and nobody can ever take those memories away. You got the tee-shirt, the one marked "class act".

Remember the Alamo, Lydell

Lydell certainly had his highs and lows in his playing career, but if you go back and watch the Alamo Bowl, as I do every now and then, you will see that he really enjoyed himself that day. Scored, had some great carries. Troy was suspended so JZ and Teddy G and Lydell had to step up, and they all did. The game was like his career: you could look at the bottom line and say he did not have great numbers, or you could say well, with the wins and the direction of the program, through thick and thin, Lydell hung in there, played himself out of the doghouse, did his best right up to the end.

Certainly Tressel knew this, which is why right up to the end he kept going back to Lydell and giving him more opportunities.

Glad to hear he is moving on with his life.
The Alamo was a nice warm fuzzy way to cap his career.

...and just further illustrates the silliness of the NCAA since he won't count towards Ohio State's graduation rates.

Are you sure he won't? If he graduates in March, that will be in less than 5 years since he enrolled in September, 2001. I think that's how the NCAA measures graduation rates, being the % of degrees within 5 years of enrollment.

However, tOSU probably took a hit on Ross for the new APR, if he was gone for a couple quarters before he finished. Maybe the APR is what you were referring to.
