RB Lydell Ross (official thread)

this pisses me off... maybe i'm being irrational, but as far as i'm concerned, any Buckeye who is willing to sell something as priceless as a National Championship Ring doesn't deserve to wear the Scarlet and Gray... as far as the Buckeyes go, Flydell is dead to me. in my mind he is no longer a Buckeye.

Whoa nellie.

I don't think any of us (other than perhaps the small handful of posters who have actually downed the scarlet and grey-WHILE ON THE TEAM) have a right to say something like, "any Buckeye who is willing to sell something as priceless as a National Championship Ring doesn't deserve to wear the Scarlet and Gray."

Lydell Ross has more than paid his dues and frankly he can do whatever he damn well wants with his ring. You don't know his financial situation and neither do I but I think it is safe to assume that it isn't the best.

If a player is selling their ring for nefarious reasons (crime, drugs, etc.) that is one thing. There is no indication that is the case here. Did Lydell have to pay his own way to finish school? Does he have a child to take care of? Does he have a sick mother? Does he have a mortgage payment? You don't know. To say that a player is "dead to me" because he is selling his ring is ridiculous. He doesn't need a ring to remind him of his accomplishments, his accomplishments were earned on the field, in his heart and mind as well as those of the fans.

My two cents.

So what if they sell their ring?

Maybe they're not psychos like most of us on here who eat, sleep, and breathe OSU football.

Maybe he doesn't want to live on his college laurels. If he wants to put it behind him, so be it.

It's his ring, he's free to do what he wants with it.

I understand LV's point, but not to that degree.

You like to think that Buckeyes are proud to have been Buckeyes, and achieving the greatest goal as a Buckeye would mean more to them than 6,000 dollars.

But sometimes it's not always the case, and I think it's sad.

I have moved some posts from here to the holding cell guys. We don't post third party rumors or bash player or former players. Opinions about Ross selling his ring or about his performance are fair game, let's avoid some of that other stuff.

Some of you should listen to Spielman's comments on 1460 today (not sure if they are archived somewhere). If there is anyone who bleeds S&G and will always live his life as a buckeye, it's him.

He said he has no idea where his gold pants are (his wife and mother each have one, stored somewhere), and they are merely objects to him. It's what's behind those pants that matter to him, the memories, etc.
