RB Erik Haw (official thread)

In all honesty, we should probably wait until Haw plays a SINGLE DOWN OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL before we speculate about his need for motivation from a player who won't even grace the roster next season...I know this is a slow time of year, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

if Haw is this good, then why didnt he play at all this year? was he red-shirted? if not, its not exactly rare to see freshman play running back, and do it well (as we all personally saw that a few years back), and if Haw hasnt played at all i mean i hope theres a good reason why he didnt at least get a few carries to get experiance.

Yes, he redshirted. Why not redshirt the guy when you have four other backs? One of them was a freshman, but Pittman came in early, and started practice in the spring (so did that guy from a couple of years ago). Haw didn't come in until the later. He had some learning curve issues, and appears to have made alot of progress. He doesn't need a kid with one more year of highschool left to make him play any better.

Haw is going to explode on the scene starting this spring. The good ole' days of Buckeye RB greats is in full swing again in 05. Maurice Wells is going to have a difficult time seeing the field but I hope he proves worthy of PT and letters as a freshman.

Erik Haw was a "sort of big" back. We already had Ross and Joe, so there was little need for him on this team. Pittman brought mroe speed to the table, plus he had all spring to prepare.

tOSU's mad running game is officially back. There is no way that Wells/Wells won't produce great results. And if Maurice doesn't have the success we hope he will, Haw or Pittman will gladly fill his spot.

If you have to ask if Haw was red-shirted, then you haven't been paying attention at all this year, and as such don't have room to be asking "if Haw is this good". :roll1:

Just to set you straight, the staff didn't see the need to burn eligibility for both of our true freshman backs (Pittman and Haw) seeing as we had three experience seniors (Ross, Hall, and Joe) available as TBs. That not only saved a year for Haw, but it also put a year of separation between him and Pittman, while giving Haw a chance to learn and get used to the system.

what it takes to play rb as a freshmen is incredible...you do not see freshmen in on passing downs (unless they get motioned out) there are just to many options and variations on blocking schemes. erik had other issues too. he is a great kid, but has to focus in on football, he has all the talent in the world he just needs to apply it.

there are a lot of rumblings on BN and BSB that {ittman's days may be numbered if he continues on his current path. It seems he suffers from the same issues as EJ Underwood. has anyone else heard such talk?

Even if this is overblown and pittman just had attitude issues, that will be enough to sink him in the depth chart.

Haw is definately going to have to step up regardless.

I think a year in the system will make Haw better. I really think people overact to some of the statements that he had trouble adjusting to the college game and scene. NOT everyone can be a Teddy Ball Game and it even took him awhile to get acclimated. I think a stable of backs of Haw, Wells, Wells, and Pittman is going to be unbelievable...Heck I probably have Pittman in the 4 spot on that list and that is just wrong!!

I have never heard rumblings about Pittman or his attitude...etc. Someone stated that it was Haw that was having some issues but where is the credibility in that report?

They should be fine either way....and have a few backs that can show their stuff!

Not to mention that C. Wells can't even sign his letter of intent for another 12 months.

We need a vbet on who the starting RB will be for game 1 next year. I haven't seen Haw or Wells play at all, but I'm leaning towards Haw over Pittman right now just from what I heard about them when they came in. The spring game will be huge for these 2 this year.

Reacting to rumblings from message boards - and in particular BN - is unfair to these kids. It is sometimes - but not often - true. Let's not speculate as though it was.

That is not only true, but JT had initially planned to play Haw based on his performance in Fall practice. He only backed off when it became clear Ross would be healthy and we would have this much depth.
