RB Dan Herron (fifth to seventh): Not great size or great speed, but runs hard and learned to hit holes, viewed as a potential second back in a two-back system.

NFL: Bengals take Herron in sixth round
He?s first Buckeye drafted by Cincinnati since 1994
Sunday April 29, 2012
The Cincinnati Bengals? 18-year streak of passing up Ohio State players in the NFL draft ended yesterday when they took running back Daniel Herron in the sixth round.
The last Buckeyes players taken were defensive tackle Dan Wilkinson and fullback Jeff Cothran in 1994.
The Bengals let running back Cedric Benson leave as a free agent after last season and signed free agent BenJarvus Green-Ellis from New England. Down to their last pick, they decided to give Herron a chance to win a supporting role.
?He?s a guy who has had a productive career at Ohio State,? coach Marvin Lewis said. ?We?re really excited to add him to our stable of guys and let him come in here and compete ? and can he make the football team by playing on special teams, by being a runner, by being a receiver.?
Herron was suspended for the first six games last season because of his role in the tattoo-parlor scandal at Ohio State.
He was concerned that his involvement would hurt him in the NFL draft.
?I wasn?t sure,? he said. ?I knew it was going to be a learning process for me. I learned from my mistakes. It has made me a better person.
?The questions always came up about it. I answered the questions honestly. Teams definitely wanted to know about it. Obviously they were concerned. They wanted to know what really happened. All I could do was to be honest about everything.?

Herron ends Bengals Buckeye drought with a Boom
Paul Dehner Bengals.com Contributor
The Bengals searched for running back depth all weekend, but it took until the final pick to provide it when they took Ohio State running back Dan “Boom” Herron in the sixth round.
A back with the desired grade didn't emerge until Herron at No. 191 as Cincinnati hoped to find its version of the overlooked running back in the mold of Houston's undrafted Arian Foster and Herron's teammate BenJarvus Green-Ellis.
The story of Herron's career derailed along with Ohio State as scandal engulfed the program prior to this senior season. Herron ended up serving a five-game suspension for accepting illegal benefits. Suspensions and turmoil threw off the results of his disappointing, shortened senior campaign.
"It was off," Marvin Lewis said.

Bengals select Harding’s Herron
April 29, 2012
By ED PUSKAS , Tribune Chronicle sports editor | [email protected]
HOWLAND - The wait was difficult, but the Herron family had been through it before. This time, their patience was rewarded.
The Cincinnati Bengals called Saturday afternoon to let former Ohio State running back Dan "Boom" Herron know they were selecting him in the sixth round of the NFL draft.
It was a call the former Warren G. Harding standout and his family were hoping would come earlier, but ultimately, the running back and his family were happy when the phone rang.
Not long afterward, Brenda Herron - Boom's mother - returned from a store with a Bengals cap for her youngest son, who rushed for 2,946 yards and scored 32 touchdowns in four seasons at Ohio State.
"I knew they were interested because they came to my pro day workout," the 23-year-old Herron said. "I also met with them at the combine and at the Senior Bowl, so I knew they were interested. It was definitely in the back of my head that they might take me."
Even though he experienced the wait of an NFL draft in 2007 when his brother David was coming out of Michigan State, Boom admitted going through a range of emotions during this year's three-day event.
"I was definitely nervous and very anxious," Herron said. "It was a little long wait, but I think God has a plan for me. I'm just very happy to be a Bengal now."

Predicting Bengals' Contracts Round Six: Boom Herron
by Jason Garrison on May 7, 2012
In the sixth round of the 2012 NFL draft, the Bengals got their running back with their last pick. At No. 191, the Bengals chose to select former Ohio State Buckeye running back Dan "Boom" Herron. Herron, one of the players forced to serve suspensions in the 2011 season for selling memorabilia and receiving gifts, probably is the longest shot at making the roster of the team's 10 draft picks simply because of Cedric Peerman's special teams value.
Star-divide
Sixth-round picks don't usually hold out and now that there is a new collective bargaining agreement, it's almost a certainty that it won't happen. In fact, based on last year's picks and what they signed for, we can make a somewhat accurate guess at what Herron will be signed for this season.
Last year's No. 191 pick was center Jason Kelce out of the University of Cincinnati. He was selected by the Eagles and signed a four-year, $2.14 million deal with the team. This is likely a similar contract to what Herron would sign with the Bengals in the coming weeks.
