RB Daniel "Boom" Herron (Official Thread)

I saw that Boom did 22 reps of 225 at the combine. Noce stat, although not overly surprising as he's always been pretty strong over the years. Did y'all see that running back from Utah State? He was ripped!

Turbin? That dude is a freaking tank

Herron, who ran in the high 4.6s at the NFL Combine, greatly improved on that number on Friday, running times ranging from 4.44 to the low 4.5s. The 4.44, by the way, came from the stopwatch of former Buckeye lineman Alex Boone.

"I wanted to run my 40 again, obviously I tripped a little bit at the combine," Herron said. "This was more relaxed here, and I ran pretty good.

"Any time you have head coaches and scouts out here, it's always good to put on a good show. It's a job interview. It's a little bit of pressure, but at the same time I felt comfortable because this is my home."

Herron wasn't the only one who felt comfortable, because Posey looked completely at ease. He didn't run a 40, choosing instead to stick with his Combine time of 4.5 seconds. He mentioned that he was laser timed at 4.41 seconds at the Combine, and the teams he talked to were plenty content with his speed.

He had a tremendous outing catching the ball, as he didn't appear to drop anything on the day.

?This is the best part, it's just football," he said. "Running routes and catching balls. I feel like I do that the best. I just wanted to come out and make sure I caught everything today."

Not only did he catch everything on the day, but he also captured perfectly what the day meant to him.

?It's the period at the end of the sentence," he said. "It's a two month period and you want to be able to cap it all off with a great individual workout. You're at home, this should be your most comfortable setting. I feel like it went well."

Improvement shown by Adams, Herron

For Mike Adams and Daniel Herron, the numbers that stood out from the NFL combine were ones they would like to forget. Adams had only 19 reps in the bench press. Herron ran a 4.65 in the 40.

Yesterday, they both did better, particularly Herron. One source said Herron ran a 4.51. Others had him a tad slower, but clearly better than his Indianapolis time.

?I felt a lot more comfortable because this is my home,? Herron said. ?It was easy for me to relax and just have fun.?

At the combine, Herron said he stumbled at the start of his first 40 and drifted to the side on his second.

?I was very disappointed,? he said.

Dan Herron, RB (5-9 5/8, 209) ? He ran a 4.60- and 4.58-second 40-yard dash, but had a 1.50 10-yard time, which shows pretty good explosion. He did position drills, but those were mostly with him catching the ball out of the backfield. Everybody wants to see if these guys can catch the football. He looked OK.

Jets Draft Spotlight: RB Daniel Herron

Jets Draft Spotlight: RB Daniel Herron

In the search for a draft prospect at running back for the Jets, here?s a name that may be a good value for the Jets in the later rounds. Spotlight: Daniel ?Boom? Herron from Ohio State.

For a full scouting report, check out nflmocks.com

Measurables

5?10? 213 pounds, 32 inch arms, 9 inch hands

4.66 forty yard dash, 22 bench press reps, 35 inch vertical, 117 inch vertical, 6.97 3 cone drill, 4.04 20 yard shuttle, 11.60 60 yard shuttle

Through November, Herron averaged 5.4 yards per rush, playing only in 4 games (out 6 games for NCAA violations). For his career, he has rushed for 31 TDs to go along with a 4.9 yard average per rush.

Pros: He clearly can score, is deceptively powerful, and is a good locker room leader(something that the Jets could sorely use right about now.

Cons: At 5?10″ he is a little small for a power running back. His NCAA violations may cause some teams pause, but he actually is known for having good character and leadership skills. He also doesn?t have breakaway speed, doesn?t pull away from the pack for long TDs. (Neither did Curtis Martin)

Harding?s Herron awaiting an NFL call

Harding?s Herron looking forward
By Joe Scalzo

When Daniel ?Boom? Herron came out of Warren Harding five years ago, every scout agreed he was a Division I football player.

But not everyone felt he was an Ohio State player.

?Yeah, people have their opinions, just like people have their opinions about the draft this year,? said Herron, speaking by phone earlier this week. ?It just gives you a chip on your shoulder to kind of just prove people wrong.

?A lot of people said I was crazy going to Ohio State. But I knew in my heart what I was capable of doing.?

After redshirting the 2007 season, Herron ran for 439 yards as a freshman in 2008, then gained at least 600 yards in each of the next three seasons, including a career-best 1,155 yards and 16 TDs as a junior, earning first team All-Big Ten honors.

Boom has been doubted every step of the way, starting when he was recruited. He'll be a good pro.

He absolutely TRUCKED Taylor Mays, who was known as a big, though cheap shot, hitter. Out of all things you could criticize, power isn't one of them. I don't know how good a pro he'll be, but I'll root like hell for him.
