RB Daniel "Boom" Herron (Official Thread)

Wouldn't surprise me at all to see Boom and/or Pryor still be a captain. Remember that the TEAM elects these guys, not Tressel or the coaches. I don't think that they will hold a grudge over this when choosing, you have to consider how long ago the actual violations occurred.

Really it's not a huge senior class like last year where there was so many guys to choose from. Tyler Moeller would seem like an obvious choice. Then maybe you have Brewster, but you'd think Pryor and Boom come in right after that..Nathan Williams is probably the only other guy with a shot.

I think Boom would make a great captain, but agree that there's no way Tress makes him a captain after suspending for a portion of the season.

And no, there's no way Boom is a 1st round pick, not even close. Even in a probably weak RB class, he's a mid round guy, like Pittman. Will be a solid backup and special teams guy, but he's not a starter in the league, But a very good college player who will always have a job and options in C-bus once his NFL career is up

Brandon Joe has done quite well for himself here in Columbus - post football playing days.

I think Herron gets a few looks in the NFL for a starting gig. He will have to work for it, but if Sutton can secure a job - Herron has a legit change as well.

Did you read the post above???? Just responding to what some other have posted. He will not be a captain because of the suspended 5 games and embarrassment to the team!! Other posters were talking about what round he may go in, sorry he not a first rounder is all!!!!

Your logic is flawed.

I'll bet 10-to-1 vCash whatever you have that none of the Tat Five are captains. While the team votes, it's Tressel who has the final say so, and it has always been that way. Being a team captain is an honor that Tressel considers something you have to earn over a long, sustained period of time (that's why captains are almost always seniors). Regardless of how long ago the violations occured, Tressel will not have players on suspension as team captains.

The post you quoted (which predicted Boom as a captain) was made before any news of the Tat-Five was announced.

I'm sure that most of us expected him to be a 2011 captain back in early December, but now believe it to be very unlikely.

Thanks, thats my bad I did not look when the post was made sorry!!

Milli is 100% correct... Not first hand knowledge by any means but there have been several years where majority has not ruled for at least 1 captain spot so I have been told.

Troy Smith: Suspension for NCAA violation + Arrest while he was here, still a captain

Doug Worthington: DUI arrest but still a Captain

I think it is a body of work type of thing, I could see Tressel overruling the selection of somebody who was constantly getting into trouble/not doing what he needed to do. These guys have gotten a pretty big punishment already, I don't think Tressel is that interested in continuing to tack onto it. If they take leadership of the team as seniors, and show the right kind of attitude through Spring and Summer ball there is no reason for Tressel to withhold that from them.

Ya but the tat five is out for 5 game's. That's way too many game's for one of them to be a captian. My money is on Brewster, Williams and Moeller.

Only 3? I agree with those three, but I'd add Zach Boren as the second offensive captain. One thing that sticks out to me about him is during the Iowa game when he was in Heyward's face pumping him up. He screams captain to me, and this seems like it would be the year to have a junior captain.

I'll take that bet in a heartbeat.

No way Boren gets captain staus as a Junior. They would put another lineman as a Captain.

Brewster, Moeller, and Sweat would be my bet, Williams?s maybe but he also had some off field issues as well. You may see one rotating captain to allow the Tat 5 a chance after the suspensions.
