RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (All B1G, All-American)

Right now, I would roughly guess that he runs in the 4.55-4.6 range...

The very first post in the thread said that he, quote: "won the 100 meters in an track invitational meet with a 11.0 time"...that's 110 yards in 11.0 seconds. By that time, I'm fairly sure his 40 time is around 4.4.

Didn't the Rivals analyst Crabtree have Wells in his Top 50 JRs to watch and on his All-American JR squad for 2005? I don't think he can just rescind this and also overlook Chris's measureables, speed and videos. No doubt he is a top 3 RB and a 5* recruit by all recruiting services. If he isn't, then these rankings are a total mockery and should not be held in account when evaluating players.
You're right, they shouldn't and for most schools they don't. Teams evaluate based on the film and their scounting. Fans (most of us) evaulate based upon those stars and then the sub-numbers telling us whether the recurit's on in which a school can "build the program around him" or "may play as special-teamer his senior year". The rating stars are what sell subscriptions to their service. I'm sure these guys try to do their best but I trust JT and his staff to pick the best kid for the their needs then use that kid to accentuate his skills.

Wow, that is impressive. I still think 4.5 is a reasonable range for him. The way he turned the cornered seemed a touch slower than the other back from FL. Speed is overrated for a big back like him anyway. I remember plenty of people were saying cough*lemming*cough that MoC will not be a homerun type of runner b/c he didn't have exceptional speed. That turned out to be far and far away from the truth. Sky is the limit for Wells, no question.

his fastest time was 10.7 in the 100 meters and a 4.45 in the 40.

jimotisheisman= how about glenvilles B team in the national track meet.

They finished in the top 5 in at least 2 of the relays.

Know that is fast from one high school, to bad glenville could not have 2 teams in the ohio state meet.

wow...
11.0 or 1o.7 translates to a legit 4.45 guy..
..thats pull away speed.
...speed plus that size equals a very special back.

btw,
MoC ran a 11.0 100m iirc..
...and he was (key word) a 4.45-4.5 40 yard guy.

ginormous start for the '06 class.

What a start to this class!!

Any word if the coaches are content with Chris or are they also going to try and bring in one more back to add to the depth at the position.

RB is a top priority in this class, and we just got one of the best at the position (and he's and Ohio guy  ).

Congrats to Chris... welcome to the buckeye family!!!

OSU FOOTBALL
Power runner commits for ’06
Monday, February 07, 2005
Tim May
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Ohio State missed out on signing a power back in its 2005 football recruiting class, but Chris Wells declared yesterday that the Buckeyes will get one in 2006.

Wells, a 6-foot-1, 227-pound junior at Akron Garfield, became the first commitment to that class. He is expected to be the top-ranked prospect in the state, but no matter what, he said, he wants to be known as a power back.

"I’m coming as a big back," Wells said. "They’ve already got a scat back. I want to be the power back."

The scat back he mentioned is the speedy Maurice Wells (no relation), an All-American from Jacksonville, Fla., who signed with Ohio State last week. But what if celebrated Jason Gwaltney, a power runner from North Babylon, N.Y., also had signed with Ohio State instead of West Virginia?

"Well, I don’t know," Chris Wells said. "Gwaltney is a big back like I am. I probably would have had to think about it for a while."

But with that point being moot, it took little time for Wells to make a decision after returning from a junior day at Ohio State during the weekend. He had offers from Oklahoma, Michigan, Penn State, Iowa, Minnesota and Syracuse, he said, but visiting Ohio State confirmed his feelings.

"All the rest of those schools are good programs, but Ohio State is where it’s at," Wells said. "I felt so comfortable there this weekend, it was amazing. It felt like home. I just want to be at Ohio State."

The feeling, no doubt, is mutual. Wells scored 20 touchdowns and rushed for 1,939 yards last year.

"I don’t think anyone would argue this is a great start for Ohio State on its 2006 class," said Bill Kurelic of OhioState.rivals.com. "Chris Wells is going to be one of the top backs in the country this year."

I heard Tressel say at his press conference that they would try to bring in 2 top-notch RB's for the 2006 recruiting class.
