RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (All B1G, All-American)

I heard Tressel say at his press conference that they would try to bring in 2 top-notch RB's for the 2006 recruiting class.

I know that was the plan, but getting Wells early can't make that easy.

That is something else I like about JT - there has never been any evidence of silent verbals per coach requests. Some coaches might be inclined to ask a kid like Wells to keep mum until thet got someone else on the hook.

On the other hand, the depth chart looks a little stacked right now, but we wont really know how things sit until the current guys get a chance to perform during the season.

I am still smarting a bit from Sammy Maldonado and MC - both of whom were 3-4 year solutions to our RB problems.

I just saw a picture of beanie wells in the weightroom in a beater shirt and the kid is a mammoth. I dont see anyone in highschool that will be able to tackle this kid. I have a great feeling about this kid, and i know he is going to be a legend.

I hope everyone remembers this Huge Recruit next signing day. I already foresee Bucknuts and the sky is falling routine next year when we lose out on some premadonna on signing day. I always love these guys that commit within days of receiveing their offer.

CWells, welcome to the Buckeye Family. We are ecstatic to have your verbal and we look forward to seeing you in the scarlet and grey. Good luck in your senior season, and keep working hard in the classroom and in the weightroom.

Any chance this one comes on board for next season's Spring ball?

I am thinking Chane Moline would be perfect for the 2nd back int his class. A FB/RB who could fill in at both when called upon. We have speed guy in Maurice and Pittman, and Haw is kind of a mix between the 2. Moline gives us another FB after Johnson graduates, ans a solid one at that.

As of today, I would think that the staff would continue to look for one additional verbal by a quality running back. I have always believed you can never have to many quality running backs

Lot can happen between now and signing day. For instance a guy like A Russell may get a chance at RB and really impress therefore the need for a 4th back may not be that great!!

The Cleveland Plain Dealer's write-up of Wells' verbal says his best 40 time is a 4.48. It's the first official 40 time I've heard he's run. Though it isn't nike and almost certainly was hand-timed, I'll take that!

This is excellent news.

I just hope he doesn't change his mind between now and signing day next year.

He grew up a UM fan (thanks Coop), and I doubt they'll give up on him until it's in black and white.

Would you?
i think the only way scUM has a chance at him is if they let a few of their RBs go. im guessing the depth chart is whats most appealing to mr. wells.

Our favorite scUMer (Bret) said something like this:

Uh, well, we didn't need him anyway (WAH!!!), you know we have Grady (WAH!!!), so you guys can have Wells (WAH!!!). We'll call it even (WAH!!!)

(Returns to sucking thumb...)

BN27 totally agree. No matter what Pittman, Haw, and Wells do this year I think at best the depth chart could be even at the end of the year...

From Plain Dealer

http://www.cleveland.com/hssports/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/sports/1107777302275420.xml#continue

Garfield coach Bob Sax, who accompanied Wells and his parents on the trip, said they were sitting next to the student section when about 50 students started chanting, "We want Chris Wells. We want Chris Wells."

"Chris asked me if they were chanting what he thought they were chanting and I told him I thought so," Sax said. "I have no clue how all that came about."

Wells, who will not turn 17 until August, is pushing 6-3 and weighs 228.

"Even if they would have recruited more running backs I still would have given them seri ous consideration because I just love everything about OSU," Wells said. "I might not have committed so early, but they still would have been high on my list."
