RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (All B1G, All-American)

his performance today hopefully puts to rest the talk of him failing to "man up". Beanie put his heart on the line today and delivered a win with the last drive which killed the clock.

Kirk Barton was fired up with that last drive as well.

I know this isnt the greatest comparison due to recent feelings toward him, but every time Beanie got up and walked back to the huddle today I thought, Jim Brown. He's killing people and getting into the open. His vision was immaculate today, unbelievable. But after the tackle.... Slow getting up. Slow back to the huddle. Limping. Looking hurt. The next play, BOOM, right in the mouth. The MSU Dbacks wanted no part of Beanie and the lineman werent getting a sniff on most plays. Great blocking today except for 3 plays in a row, and great running by Beanie!

think about how he would be running if he didn't have bone chips grinding around in his foot...

I cant imagine. My feet hurt just from carrying me around all day and he's got part of his grinding around in there. Glad he's got the OSU medical staff to take care of it.

I had a bone chip in my ankle for about a year. It was very painfull and would sometimes get inside of the joint and lock up! It would swell up if I walked on it alot. So after a year of pain I went ahead and had surgery on it. So I know what Beanie is going through. He is one tuff kid if he can play with that floating in his ankle. Keep fightin' Beanie!!! :wink2:

The people talking about him failing to "man up" .........
1. Don't know what he was going thru
2. Don't have a clue what it's like to play / perform with pain
3. Couldn't walk a mile in his shoes, let alone run for 220 yards in them

No question he's a top heisman contender next season.

I know we lose some offensive linemen which will hurt, but our offense could really be something special next year with a healthy Beanie, senior Boeckman and more experience in an already good receiving corps.

I completely agree. If he stays healthy then he'll definitely be in the running. I think he'd be in the talks this year if it wasn't for being injured and missing some playing time.

I think it's obvious what's going on here. Tressel has had conversations with Beanie, telling him he has to be a warrior and play through the pain. Tressel knows that if the Bucks are to get back to the National championship game, Wells must be a force. Make no mistake about it. Last years championship game loss to Florida stung the players, but it stung Tressel 10 times as hard. There is nothing he wants more than to get back, and he can smell it. Obviously, the running game opens up the passing game for Beockman, and without Beanie, there is no running game. Let's be honest, while he has improved, Mo Wells is not a threat.

Obviously, Beanie has gotten the message (220+ yards on an injured ankle). I saw at least once that Beanie was waving off the coaching staff, when a replacement was sent in. He has gotten the point. Tressel knows that Beanie is the key to this years championship game.

I just hope he isn't pushed too hard and he REALLY injures that ankle. I'd hate to lose him for the remainder of the year and possibly more. I liked the call of sitting him in the 2nd half against Kent State. I think we would've seen more of that in the MSU game, if it wasn't for the two turnovers that led to scores.

Wells says he's ready to carry load for Buckeyes

Sophomore's critique of himself harsh even after game in which he rushed for career-high 221 yards.

COLUMBUS ? Ohio State running back Chris Wells is often his harshest critic, and he wasn't completely satisfied with his performance against Michigan State on Saturday.
"There were a few reads I missed in the passing game on protection," he said.

Ohio State notebook: Wells sees flaws; Big Ten sees otherwise

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

CHRIS RUSSELL | Dispatch
Chris "Beanie" Wells had a lot of running room against Michigan State, rushing for 221 yards on 31 carries.

Ohio State running back Chris "Beanie" Wells and observers clearly had two different opinions about the impact of his 221-yard rushing day in the win over Michigan State. "It was OK, but I feel as if I could have done a lot better," Wells said. "There were a few reads I missed, and in the passing game I could have done a lot better."

Ohio State running back Chris Wells and OSU punter/kicker A. J. Trapasso were both named Players of the Week in the Big Ten for their performances against Michigan State.

Wells was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week based on his outstanding performance. He racked up career highs with 31 attempts and 221 rushing yards while adding a touchdown to help Ohio State stay undefeated with a victory over Michigan State.

The sophomore running back averaged 7.1 yards per carry against a Spartans defense that entered the game ranked third in the conference (and 24th in the country) allowing only 101.4 yards per contest. Wells, who is still recovering from an ankle injury, broke loose for a season-long 47-yard sprint in the opening stanza and scored on a five-yard run to boost OSU?s lead to 17-0 in the second quarter. His 221-yard performance ranks as the ninth-best single-game effort in school annals and marks his fifth game over 100 yards this season. Wells picks up the first weekly honor of his career.

Wells is the first OSU player to be named the Big Ten offensive player of the week since Troy Smith won that honor on Nov. 20, 2006
