RB Bri'onte Dunn (dismissed from team)

I think what he's saying is that we will have fewer than 85 scholarships to give.

Exactly. If we take a two ship hit next year the number will be 83.

If we are not taking any hits next year than that gets delayed (I was not aware this was the case).

In any event, the limit of 25 per year is not likely to be an issue for this class unless the number or returning players drops below 60 - which seems unlikely.

Then again, if we are down to say 62 by February and sign say 26, we could make that work if one came in early and three more left before classes started in the fall.

I think they have a name for that.

Oops - this is the Dunn thread. Back to Dunn.

Size is the issue - and an interesting one. The conventional wisdom is that Urban wanted to play with small backs. Urban argues he didn't have them.

I think a big back is the perfect complement for his offense - particularly with Miller as QB. Go right at an unblocked defender and either run around him or over him depending on who it is.

This. If the move is to more one back formations, having a back with enough size to act as an effective blocker as well as a runner is a huge benefit as well.

Checked Scout today, noticed that they re-evaluated most everyone. Bri'onte moved down a spot to #6 rb. He's still a 5 star, just thought it funny that they move him down after he commits. Silly Scout  . That said, our class as a whole moved up to #6 :oh:

I was recruited by a number of Big Ten schools (not in FB). The first time TSUN's coaches talked to me I politely told them I was not interested in their school and to stop contacting me.

If my son gets to the point where he is being recruited for a sport, I will gladly take an in-home visit by a TSUN coach......and have him meet in a room completely covered in scarlet & gray with numerous Block O's.

Great that he wants to compete early, anyone think he can start?

I think with a new coach all the positions are up for grabs. It is going to be hard to beat out Miller at the quarterback position; but I really don't think there are too many "locks to start" for any other position. He competes, if he is the best back; he'll start. The problem that most freshman running backs have isn't running the ball. It is their blocking assignments and fumbles. If he learns his blocking assignments and is able to hold on to the ball; I believe that he'll do real well.

More than likely several backs will get significant carries and I see him in the mix with Hall and Hyde.

Question: Just wondering if Urban really told Dunn there would be no further penalties? I hope there was some miscommunication there...I was hoping that was true after that update...and then yesterday happened.

IIRC I believe Urban told Dunn "nothing worse is going to happen." But you're right. The bowl ban was definitely worse than a scholarship reduction.
