RB Brandon "Zoom" Saine (official thread)

I like how Saine was used today. Flair passes, screen passes, he lined up as a WR, he ran the ball in the one back set. I think he did a really good job and think we need to continue to take advantage of his versitility. We are expecially going to need him as Beanie continues to struggle with a high ankle sprain. He moves the pile and we need that to be effective.

We gave a lot of teams some film of him today. Some might take that as a negetive, but I take it as a positive. Makes him just ONE more player teams are going to have to gameplan for, and he's about as unpredictable as he could be. Teams will have to watch the catches out of the backfield (like that brilliant wheel route catch he had early in the game today), the screen, his speed when he goes out wide as a WR... every time he comes in, he'll have to be accounted for.

Special kid. Can't wait to see him line up with some of the guys in this coming year's recruiting class.

Game write-up

It was a big day for backup tailback Brandon Saine. He had nine carries for 69 yards as well as five catches for 76 yards.

"It was really fun to come back and play in front of all of these people," said Saine, who had missed two previous games due to a knee injury. "I just went out there and made the best of it."

Boeckman added, "Brandon is something else. Once he gets the ball, he is exciting to watch. He has a lot of speed. He can beat anybody around the corner. It's really exciting where he's at and where he's heading."

Ohio state notes
Saine a top weapon for Ohio State

By Doug Harris
Staff Writer

Sunday, October 14, 2007

COLUMBUS ? Ohio State considered making Brandon Saine a receiver this season because of his dazzling speed. But the freshman running back is giving his coaches what they were seeking even without a position switch.
Saine had five receptions for 76 yards against Kent State, both game highs. He also led the Buckeyes in rushing with 69 yards on nine carries, all in the second half.

OHIO STATE INSIDER
Ohio State Buckeyes may run Brandon Saine play again

Sunday, October 14, 2007 Doug Lesmerises
Plain Dealer Reporter
Columbus -- You can bet Ohio State coach Jim Tressel will be calling that play again, although he might have to tuck it away for a while.
Freshman running back Brandon Saine caught a 35-yard deep pass from quarterback Todd Boeckman in Saturday's 48-3 win over Kent State after lining up as the fullback and then breaking wide open on his route out of the backfield.
"It was kind of a trick play almost," Saine said. "I ran around the corner and saw nobody there, so I knew the ball was coming to me. I hoped nobody would get there."

He is already a big weapon for us.
Would like to see more touches, but how?
He does many things very well!
What a weapon! :tongue2:

We're loaded with weapons, but Brandon is one of those backs that you just have to hold your breath when he runs because you know that he's going to explode at any given moment. We are fortunate to have him as a running back as well as a pass catcher. That 35 yard pass he caught out of the backfield was just a preview of what will be a constant threat and very difficult to defend. Trick play he said, maybe it should be a standard play and we'll see him over 200 yards in a game. With Beanie and Brandon both potentially over 100 yards in a game along with the balance of our offense contributing, I don't see how we can lose. Have we ever seen a more balanced team on offense and defense? I saw a stat that had TB throwing about 1100 yards so far and the rushing stat was about the same. This team is one of the most talented collection of young players that I've seen in a while. As someone else posted here, "this is a very good time to be a Buckeye fan".

Go Bucks :osu:

how about at WR or with Wells in the backfield. That would destroy the other teams DEFENSE UP.

WELLS.SAINE,SMALL,ROBISKE AND HARTLINE. Looks like all kind of WEAPONS:biggrin:

SAINE CAN DO IT ALL

Buckeyes freshman Brandon Saine became Ohio?s 2006 Mr. Football after he rushed for almost 1,900 yards and led Piqua High School to a Division II state title.

Opponents should never underestimate Saine as a receiver. In Ohio State?s 48-3 win over Kent State, he finished with a team-best five catches for 76 yards.

Tressel knew the Buckeyes were in contention for more than just a great running back when Saine came to Ohio State?s passing tournament.

?Brandon Saine is an extraordinary receiver,? Tressel said. ?He has a great ability to reach out with his hands.

?A lot of guys can catch the ball. Not many guys can pluck the ball. He?s excellent.?
