RB Brandon "Zoom" Saine (official thread)

Brandon looked VERY timid out there tonight. I'm not so sure he should have played tbh because it didn't seem like he had ANY confidence in his knee.

He just didn't run like himself. The one he just stood there, and the one where he had a good gain with good blocking, he had a seam and Brent was about ready to go crazy and he just didn't get between those two defenders like I think he normally would have.

Well, lets hope next week against KSU Beanie can rest and Brandon can get his legs back under him because we'll need them both.

And MoWells has definitely stepped it up.

Agreed, but I think having a few chances at full speed against a real opponent and hopefully being fine the next day will give him a good bit of that confidence and let him play loose during practice

The doctors and the coaches know more about Brandon's knee than we do, so I'm sure he was physically capable of playing without re-injury. Mentally, however... he's a true freshman. Coming off an injury, getting meaningful snaps in a Big 10 game against a ranked opponent, at night, on the road... that's asking a lot. I'm sure he will get his confidence back.

And a home game against Kent State might be just the cure.

Saw that too, it was like he was thinking "if I hit the hole, I'm not going anywhere. if I run to the outside though the coach might yell if I score a TD late?" :) He did seem tentative. What ever happened to the sweep play? With all that speed, let's try using it more in creative ways. I saw Mo Wells run one like that in the first drive for a long gain. Do the same with Zoom. Couldn't hurt.

It was great to see Brandon out there playing, and I can easily forgive a little hesitation. If I'd had knee surgery 2 weeks before, I would be worried about running into a pile and trying to drive through with my legs. As he gets more reps in live games he'll hopefully trust his knee more and get back to being the player he was before the injury.

I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of Saine today. He's really proven himself to be a huge asset for this team. Hopefully, between Beanie and Saine we can avoid health issues for the rest of the year.

Next year's stable of RB's is absolutely crazy. Beanie, Mo Wells (who improves significantly each year), Saine, and Torrence??? It's just not fair.

Saine had a good week of practice according to JT.....I expect to see him get a bulk of carries against Kent State.

Kent State has a very good running back that some in Columbus are comparing him to the back that ripped us last year for Northern Illinois ?? I don/t recall his name. Anyway I am hoping that OSU can rest Beanie and Saine can fill in nicely today.

Whoever compared Wolfe to Saine is insane....and that is being nice.

Saine is a straight out stud...He is so good in and out breaks...getting up to speed after he breaks thru a tackle...

He missed some cuts today, but give him some time and we will see more runs like that 30 yarder today...That was a thing of beauty...
