RB Brandon "Zoom" Saine (official thread)

and when it isnt completely obvious that were going to be pounding away the ball, I see Zoom tearing off plenty of long runs ahead in his career.
Especially stretching the field.... the kid has scary speed.

I'm surprised he hasn't busted any long runs this year. He just hasn't been able to turn the corner and get up-field on a run.

I don't think anyone can complain about his performance against TSUN. Everyone in the world knew what play we were running. He was in there for Beanie's sake--so he could get some air. There is no doubt that Saine is going to be a tremendous contributor in the years to come.

We haven't seen his full potential yet. With his style of running, the plays should be designed to take advantage of his speed on sweeps, options or as a receiver out of the backfield. He doesn't seem to hit the holes like Beanie, but who does?

Actually, before his knee injury he looked more aggressive at attacking the line...now he looks a little tentative.

I agree, he seems tentative but is this due his knee or the hammering he has to take hitting a plugged hole? How many times have we seen him run smack into a defender instead of bouncing to the outside? I hope it's an experience thing and he works out his issues. He has so much potential that we still may see in post season (that is nice to say now) and into next season as we watch the Beanie, Zoom, and Boom Show unfold.

Here's something from 2006 for grins that highlights his talent as a sprinter. That was 10.54 sec. as a HS junior. He didn't run as a Sr.

In HS, he was quite fond of running through defenders, so I'll give him a pass given the circumstances. (Also, Saine ran a 100m in the 10.3's)

Agreed.

In the beginning he'd hit a defender or one of his OL because he was attcking the line but not yet reading it well (plus the college game is so much faster than high school)...he was not afraid to put his head down and barrel over people. He had quite a few runs like that in his first few games. Now he hesitates. It just seems he's still favoring his knee a bit. That "fear" should go away over the off-season...

yeah I agree... I mean look at how he was used in the first 3 games. He came in it seemed like just as much as MoW, and he was more effective than MoW. Then he gets injured, he sits out some games, and he barely saw the field the last 8 weeks. He was on the field but the coaches didn't run him a whole lot, and I think they see the same thing we see (he doesn't trust his knee fully yet). Come BCS bowl game IMO we should see something from Mr. Saine and I wouldn't be surprised to see it on the first drive of our BCS game. Something like motioning him out of the backfield into the slot, and then a quick pass and BAMB up field he goes.
