RB Brandon "Zoom" Saine (official thread)

I think that Saine will play a big role in the offense next year (oh hello again captain obvious) With the offseason, the coaches will find more ways to get him involved. Herron will provide the depth needed that will allow the coaches to expand Saine's role outside of the backfield. He may not carry the ball more next year than this, but I think he will see the field a lot more and be moved around a lot to create mismatches not only for him but for his teamates. With an excellent O-line and Beanie, a solid and, deep set of recievers, and explosive players like Zoom, Flash and Small (Ray needs a nickname) added to two distinctive QB styles to prepare for, I foresee a lot of migraines for D-coords.

Talks about how the staff is still holding Beanie out of contact drills at this point and how the "Boom & Zoom tandem" of Herron & Saine have stepped up.

I heard about him. Seems like a fast player and has good size for a RB. Anyone know if he gets some carries this season? Or will he play mostly on special teams? I'm guessing he gets a few carries at least backing up Beanie Wells.

NM...

I had Boom Herron on the brain when I made this post.

Well, he was the #2 tailback and I would look for him to start getting some carries or playing in the slot (see 2007-08 NC game) however now that we have Pryor, he probably won't see the field unless it's at LB this year :tongue2:

Saine could play a much more expanded role this season.

Like S&G said, he spent some time in the slot. We showed some two-back looks with Beanie and Saine. Saine was used as a lead blocker on a few plays - Boeckman could then fake the hand-off to Beanie and toss it to Saine. Didn't really see that outside of a few plays last year - could be a potent package this year, especially with reports coming out of practice saying that they're doing a lot of work in the "pony."

Between Beanie, Saine, Herron, maybe Flash, maybe Pryor... there simply isn't enough football to go around for all these guys to get touches. It's anyones guess as to what role each of these guys will play. Beanie's the CEO - the other guys are all on his board of directors.

Mo Wells was, and still is, the #2 tailback...and Saine will get his carries regardless of Pryor.

How was Mo the #2 tailback?

He was #2 for most (if not all) of the year on the official depth chart for one. Also, Mo played in more games than Saine, had more carries (2nd most on the team), more yards (2nd most on the team), more TDs (2nd most on the team) and averaged more yards per game (2nd most on the team) for the year, Mo sure seems like the clear #2 tailback to me.

FWIW, Saine did have more rushing + receiving yards (427) than MoWells (414), and the 2 games Saine missed were due to injury.

Saine missed like four games with a torn meniscus.

His 3.6 YPC and penchant for getting stopped for little gain says otherwise to me.

Mo may have been the #2 tailback last year, but I expect him to get passed up by Boom and Saine this year.

Sidenote - Did Mo get injured against Michigan?

I dont really remember Saine in the slot. I remember him out wide and then lined up at the wing. I wonder if they plan on lining him up on the wing this yr...?? I like it. The play against lsu was a really good design. (fake the screen to Beanie, they jump it, Saine on the wheel route).

It was used a few times in other games too. We try it once and then fake it to Saine and throw it to another WR on other attempts. This play is a ball buster to the opposing D. It needs a QB with field vision to make it work IMO.
