RB Brandon "Zoom" Saine (official thread)

He might not have done anything spectacular in THE GAME, but for a true freshman to be carrying the rock in the 2nd half of THE GAME...he hung onto the football and at that point that's all I was really concerned about. So hats off to Brandon. He did his job and spelled Beanie and hung onto the football. He's going to have a long offseason to get his knee back to 100% and get that confidence blasting through the hole and shakin' and bakin'. He's going to be fine.

Avoiding the insanity

Freshman tailback Brandon Saine didn't want to return from his first trip here without being able to tell family and friends he had seen the French Quarter and Bourbon Street.
"I kind of walked up and down it, just to see it," Saine said. "Other than that, I really haven't done much except hang out in the hotel, in our game room, play some video games and stuff. You've got to stay focused. We're down here to play a game, not party."

I liked the way Brandon was used in the game last night... he gave the passing game a different dimension. He also caused LSU to call a timeout I believe in the 4th quarter when he was lined up as a tight end.

Yes, he can catch passes and run. IMO, we need more of that with the help of a mobile QB. What will we do with Posey, Stoney, Dane, Ray and the Brians next season? I see a very bright future for the Buckeyes.

Are the offensive sets that we ran in the first quarter and with Brandon different than anything else we had ran all year?

I'm not much of an X's and O's guy (I leave that to the more proficient members of the board) so I don't have a straight answer but it appeared to me that his routes out of the backfield were different from what Beanie runs... more wheel routes and fly routes. Someone more knowledgeable than me can correct me if I am wrong.

That's what I noticed. He lined up in the TE position and ran a lot of wheel routes. It is something that LSU always struggles with because of our aggressive DB's who bite on any fake. I'm sure Tressel saw gametape of our D and how we apparently can never stop running backs that come out of the backfield.

Unfortunately, for us, it only worked once.

Btw, are you of the persuasion that the timeout called in the second half by LSU was because Brandon lined up there?

I like this move, and if the track coaches feel that being 220 is detrimental to his speed then I would actually like to see Brandon lose some weight. He doesn't need to be 220 lbs with the stable of RBs that we're accumulating. I'm not sure if the extra weight on a sprinters frame contributed to his injuries over the past two years or not, but would like to see him get down to 205 or 210 and regain some of the explosiveness that I saw out of him at Piqua.

I like this move too, and I'm a little surprised. IIRC, Brandon had an injury, but he also just didn't have the motivation to work back from his injury (not saying I blame him). It must help to have a few good football buddies applying a little peer pressure...

Saine Looking To Go Crazy In 2008

By Dave Biddle, Assistant Editor
Posted Jan 29, 2008

Tailback Brandon Saine showed flashes of brilliance for Ohio State as a true freshman in 2007. Due in part to an injury to Mo Wells and in part to his strong play, Saine was the top backup to Chris "Beanie" Wells the final two games of the season against Michigan and LSU in the national championship game. What does Saine have in store for 2008? We caught up with him and running backs coach Doc Tressel for their thoughts.

Cont'd ...
