Rate a Position...Part 1..QB

Thats a very interesting point about Chris Leak, he may not be the best man for the job in Florida and he may not be the athlete needed for that type offense but he has done ok work in that system, with only one yr. in it he was able to put out a pretty good performance. I still say bring on Tebow!
I just feel that Leak has gotten a raw deal. NOBODY could possibly live up to the hype that was thrown on his shoulders, especially with the Zooker as head coach. Despite just about everything possible going wrong in his college career, he has 9,000 total yards, a career completion % better than 60, and 75 total TDs in 37 games. His TD:INT ratios have been 16:11, 29:12, 20:6. If he ever had a running game or a 'complete' team, his numbers likely would've been even better.

I mean, the kid projects out to 12,000-yards and 100 TDs for a career, and people believe he should be benched. I don't get it.

I think that he gets the raw deal because people see the potential that sits on the bench much like the situation with Smith vs. Zwick, the more qualified QB isn't always the better one before starting for tOSU I had no idea who Smith was I knew Zwick because was a popular QB in ohio but when he didn't produce we as Buckeye fans got restless, The Florida are the same way, like us, it either national championship or nothing at all. I can understand Gator-fan fustration.

I forgot about Jordan Palmer. He really sucks but it's amazing what being tall and having a famous last name can do for you.

Sucks? More than a stretch IMO. He was 25th in passing efficiency.

Best QB: Troy Smith. This is the college game, and it's no secret what a mobile QB [that can also throw the ball] can do for you. There is no better combination player in the nation than Troy Smith. Leadership, poise, etc. are only a bonus.

Overrated QB: Pat White. The kid is a player, make no mistake, but Heisman is a stretch. Rushing numbers are AMAZING, passing not worth mentioning. Until he proves he can throw I think he's getting too much pub. I hate to say anything that can be misconstued as me "bashing" the Big East but if he did this in the SEC or Big 10 I would be more impressed. Also, they wont be "sneaking" up on anyone anymore, so next year he can prove me wrong.

Underrated QB: John Stocco. Kid wins and was Top 15 in efficiency last year. Does what is necessary to make it happen.

Leak still has been an overrated QB in college even with those stats. People were saying he was the next great thing and would get Florida a NC in no time. Florida hasn't helped Leak out much and neither has the coaching change helped either. Like i said in my original post, this is the year Leak breaks out. It looks like he may finally have the supporting cast this year. I see Florida and Leak making a run at the NC this coming season. Also look for Leak to put up huge numbers too.

He completed 59% not 60% and also threw 19 int's.

I rounded up, and am well aware of his INT's.

The fact remains that the positives outweight the negatives as evidenced by the 25th ranking in passing efficiency.

Again, you said he "sucks" and then changed it to "mediocre" ...neither of which are accurate. I love how you get a list of stats and focus on the one that is 1% off and throw in one negative, make no mention of the positives though.

So in summary, if you can show me how anyone with those stats can be considered someone who "sucks" or is "mediocre" than I'd love to see it.

Palmer is a career 57% passer and has 50 INTs against 62 TDs.

I agree with OregonBuckeye on Palmer; that doesn't cut it, especially against C-USA defenses.

Going into next year, why would what he did as a sophmore or freshman have much bearing at all, especially compared to his junior year?

I'm not saying the kid is this or that, but to say he "sucks" or is "mediocre" after the numbers he put up last year is, in a nutshell, inaccurate. How is 25th in the nation in efficiency "mediocre" ? How is 3500+ passing yards "mediocre" ? 31+ TD's? etc. etc.?

If you think 19 INT's and 59% completion % make up the difference AND some on that, well I respectfully disagree.

Best QB-Troy Smith, both troy and Quinn are great college Qb's but Troy wins the big games and can make things happen with his feet when needed.

Most over rated- Ainge from Tennessee... Everyone at the start of 2004 was drueling over the double QB system they had, Imparticularly Ainge... He fell flat on his face last year.

Most under rated- Drew Stanton- Very accurate, big, fast, and can make all the throws.

Here's 1,100 yards of his 2005 offense in 3 games, all losses:

431-yards at Memphis. 1TD, 3INTs
337-yards against UAB. 2TDs, 3INTs
360-yards at SMU. 3TDs, 4INTs

Forgive me if I'm not impressed that he racked up 2/3rds of that total by hanging 300 to 400 yards passing on Houston, Memphis, Rice, Tulsa, UAB, and SMU.

Jordan Palmer is nothing more than a live arm in a QB-friendly system, with a famous last name. Nothing in any of his single game performances indicates that he's some exceptionally talented QB. Anyone at a D1A school should hit 3,500 yards when they're getting 45 attempts per game.
