Rate a Position...Part 1..QB

Thankfully I really don't have to make an argument about it, thankyou Grad. But I really didn't feel the need to argue Smith over Stanton or any notion that Stanton would have beat Penn State in our game last year if he had started instead of Smith. Besides the only reason anybody would make an argument like this is because A) They are an MSU fan B) They are a scUM fan who knows they would never get buy with calling Henne better than Smith because even he knows everyone would laugh at him so he picks the closest B10 quarterback he can find.

Maybe we could take an independant poll of ND fans since they managed to lose to them both to see who is better.

Troy Smith would get my vote ....

Smith is a very good QB, just don't think he's as good as Stanton and if you made them trade places tOSU wouldn't have went 8-4 in 2004 and they wouldn't have lost 2 games in '05.

In 2004, Smith went 4-1 as a starter (final five games of the regular season). During that same timeframe, Stanton went 1-4. Smith went 68-122-3 (55.7%) for 896 yards and 8 TDs in his five games. Project those stats out for 11 games like Stanton played, it would be 150-268-7 for 1971 yards and 18 TDs. Stanton went 141-220-6 (64.1%) for 1601 yards and 8 TDs.

In 2005, Smith went 9-1 as a starter (from the third game). Stanton went 3-6 from game three. Smith went 149-237-4 (62.9%) for 2282 yards and 16 TDs, and was the #4 rated QB in the country. Stanton went 236-354-12 (66.7%) for 3077 yards and 22 TDs and was the #10 rated QB in the country.

Show me how Stanton would be an improvement over Smith (and the head-to-head rushing comparison isn't even included).

Something tells me you should expect the sound of crickets chirping.
