Rate a Position...Part 1..QB

In Chad Henne's defense, he was only a true freshman and sophomore these last 2 years. How many true freshmen and sophomores win against Ohio St. and win their bowl games? Not many. This year there'll be no excuse for him playing mediocre because he'll have 2 years as a starter under his belt.

True, but I believe he is overrated, because of the constant burougement of the media trying to sell me on this guy. I mean the hype coming into every season surrounding him is so apparent. A lot is expected out of him and every little thing he does right he is applauded, to me its truely sickening, everyone hypes him despite the fact he hasn't delivered, thats why I put on my list, lack of experience aside I just don't think that he's as good as advertised.

If you are good enough to start at Michigan during your 1st two years, you should be good enough to win those games. That excuse is not valid imho.

Best - Smith OSU

Overrated - Jordan Palmer UTEP

Underrated - it will be Rocky Hinds UNLV, un-love was 2-9 last year. Look to Rocky hinds to qive the spread option a little more flare and light up the boards a little more often for the Rebs

It's hard for him to NOT be overrated. With what the media pumps him up to be, he'd need to win four of the five BCS bowls after the 2006 season, then get drafted early by a wildcard team in the NFL, and take that team to the Super Bowl in 2007, and get named the Super Bowl MVP with at least 6 TD passes, 4 FG's, and he'll have to force three turnovers and recover two onside kicks. Otherwise, he's not living up to the media's expectations.

Best: Troy Smith. He plays his best in the big games.

Overrated: John David Booty. I think his high school stats were inflated by the system at Evangel, and that Sanchez will beat him out. His injury during the spring didn't help him.

Underrated: John Stocco, Wisconsin. He has a reputation of being a "'just don't screw things up" manager at the position, but he set school records for passing yards (2,920) and passing TDs (21) last season.

Couldn't have made a better list, besides putting Henne at 1a for being overrated.

As for Stocco, he might be a clipboard-holder at best at the next level but he has definitely made some great plays for Wisconsin. It'll be interesting to see how Bielema runs the program post-Alverez and how much he'll use Stocco.

My picks:

Best QB: Troy Smith. The most accomplished returning QB for 2006 (sorry Brady Quinn) is also the best dual-threat QB in college football (sorry Pat White). Brady Quinn's Notre Dame/Charlie Weis pedigree gives him the edge for NFL success, but if I'm down by 9 points with 7:49 to go in Ann Arbor with a Big-10 championship and BCS bowl bid on the line, I'd rather have Troy out there over anyone else in CFB. :wink2:

Overrated QB: Chad Henne. I'm going with the consensus here. The most ballyhooed QB north of the Mason-Dixon line for the past two seasons is 0-2 against the Irish, 0-2 against the arch-rival Buckeyes, and 0-2 against bowl foes Texas and Nebraska. He'd be 0-0-2 against state rival MSU without the benefit of the modern OT format, while the biggest win of his career came against Penn State in a game that required 60 minutes and 2 seconds worth of regulation play to win.

Underrated QB: Chris Leak. Yes, I'm going against the grain and saying Chris Leak is actually underrated. He's had one head coach who was flat out miserable at game planning and crunch time management, and another who is trying to fit his square peg talents into a round hole system. He had to battle Ingle Martin for a starting job when he was clearly the better talent, and now he has to battle golden-child Tim Tebow to keep the starting spot he's earned. His three season records are 8-5, 7-5, and 9-3. He's 2-1 against Tennessee, Georgia and Florida State, 1-2 against LSU and in bowls. Maybe not stellar, but it's not as miserable a record as people seem to want to remember despite all the problems and changes he's been subjected to within the Florida coaching staff.

Best: Smith/Quinn...Quinn is the better classic passer, Smith is the bigger weapon and comes up biggest in big games

Overrated: Tyler Palko, Pitt: After hearing what a wunderkind this guy was, and listening to the commentators slobber all over themselves when he was breaking in, he made no improvement last year, and he engineered an embarassing loss to Ohio.

Underrated: Brian Johnson, Utah: Threw for 2892 and 17 TDs, and chipped in 478 yards and 8 Tds on the ground in his first year...and he was 12th in efficiency rating.

Most Underrated: Troy Smith. Next year at this time, everyone across the nation will know his name.
Fwhat? Pre-season Playboy All-American, due to be no worse than pre-season 2nd team All-American by every publication in the US (it's between him and Quinn), engineered over 600 yards of offense on glorious old Notre Dame on national TV, a consensus #1 or #2 pick for the Heisman, and the QB a team that will be no worse than pre-season #3 (WVU and ND will get plenty of votes).

Who in America doesn't know Troy Smith's name? :(

Thats a very interesting point about Chris Leak, he may not be the best man for the job in Florida and he may not be the athlete needed for that type offense but he has done ok work in that system, with only one yr. in it he was able to put out a pretty good performance. I still say bring on Tebow!
