Probably doesn't belong here, but if TP is being exploited then how about the Masters and PHD students who do research and come up with new ideas and discoveries? They usually get little to no credit and certainly not the monies that a sitting Professor or company who was privy to the research get.

Nobody cares about this because it is not as high profile with TV rights, ESPiN, CBS, Fox, etc. that a football player gets. Yet the exploitation is just as real.

There is nothing stopping those guys from getting paid other than the market. There is a market for guys like TP to get paid but rules keep it from happening. I'd call that exploitation.

That is not a true statement. These "guys" research and discoveries are owned by others and they get minimal if any compensation for them under the guise of being a part of the University.

Everyone has rules to live by as discussed in many other threads "even one about condo roles on flag flying". Are you saying that TP didn't know the rules when he got his scholarship offer to play for OSU?

You're telling me that if Ricky Researcher becomes famous for his research in the field of Porn and in turn, his popularity would make him a candidate for a shoe deal or a video game or some shit, he wouldn't be allowed to sign that deal? No.

That's my biggest gripe.

Right, because that happens everyday for researchers who get the loads of press that a star football player gets....:roll1:

Exactly my point. I don't think FB players should get compensated for playing football more than they already are. I think they should either be compensated for the sale of their likeness or the sale of their likeness should be drastically reformed. Researchers don't have their likeness exploited, just their services.

I'm with you now... I do think they should get some form of compensation for jersey sales, likenesses, etc. that come from their stardom if you will. I am not sure how that would be done fairly at this point, but it is worth a look.
