A similar stat comparison can also be made with TP and Colt McCoy - Colt's passing stats are better, but he doesn't have very many rushing yards/TDs this year. The total offense numbers are basically a wash.

McCoy 182-of-254 (71.7%) for 1806, 14 TD, 8 INT, 059 carries for 104, 1 TD

Total-offense: 313 plays for 1910 yards, (6.10/play), 15 TD, 8 INT

Pryor 102-of-184 (55.4%) for 1408, 12 TD, 9 INT, 101 carries for 471, 5 TD

Total-offense: 285 plays for 1879 yards, (6.59/play), 17 TD, 9 INT

Tebow 084-of-132 (63.6%) for 1159, 08 TD, 4 INT, 121 carries for 466, 6 TD

Total offense: 253 plays for 1625 yards (6.42/play), 14 TD, 4 INT

My point is not that TP should be a Heisman candidate this year, but that his stats aren't bad.

On a separate note, the other two ghuys should NOT be Heisman frontrunners, but that discussion is for the Heisman thread.

Tebow's stats against decent competition could be called mediocre this year.

I'm guessing that you weren't aware of the stat I just posted about Tebow having more turnovers than TDs (rushing and passing) when you eliminate Florida's games against Troy and Coastal Carolina.

Well I'm not knowledgable...but think about it this way. Lot's of times there is a LB spying Terrelle sitting in the middle of the field. Would you want to take that risk for 5 yards when he can throw and get to the edge on anyone anytime? Eventually the opposing team is going to have to take off that spy. After that point, Sanz will be free to work the middle of the field.

Could be we're trying to get a few more miles out of Dane before with set him free over the middle if you know what I mean. I love his toughness, but he got rocked a couple of times last season runnign crossing routes.

Bucks prop up Pryor, but how long will it last?

On paper, it looked like a rout, and it sure smelled like a rout, at least in the second half.
But the Buckeyes left too many points on the field Saturday and watched a self-destructive Minnesota fall in too many Gopher holes for coach Jim Tressel to do much chirping.
He sure as heck wasn't tweeting.
Tressel sounded far from hip in talking about how the relationship forged between Terrelle Pryor and LeBron James, along with some encouraging words from Shaquille O'Neal, helped Pryor bounce back from his Purdue debacle.
"I think in this day of cell phones and Twitters and Twotters, or whatever, everybody knows everybody and everybody talks to everybody, but I'm sure it was a good public relations move on all parts to support one another," Tressel said. "Those celebrities know when things don't go right, the celebrity status isn't much fun. LeBron's always been a big booster of Ohio State and Shaq's an LSU guy, but he likes us in the Big Ten, I guess."
Um, likes OSU to win the Big Ten? That would be a giant leap, even for Shaq.
The Buckeyes rolled back on course with the 38-7 win against Minnesota and could beat this week's opponent, New Mexico State, with their scout team. But it might not be a good idea to remove the bumpers from the gutters. Not with that 7-10 split of a November schedule fast upon them.

COLUMBUS ? After standing before his teammates and baring his soul, Terrelle Pryor went out and played his best game of the season. None of it surprised Head Coach Jim Tressel.

Pryor was named the Buckeyes? offensive player of the week after his 343-yard day against Minnesota. The sophomore quarterback threw for 239 yards and two long touchdown passes to DeVier Posey. He also ran for 104 yards and a score.

That game came on the heels of growing restlessness among fans. Pryor answered the question about how tough he is mentally, for now.

?Probably nothing that I didn?t already know,? Tressel said. ?There were some things affirmed that I did know. It?s very, very important to him to do well for his team. There?s not many guys who feel any worse than he does if he doesn?t provide what the team needs.?

Pryor admitted to being full of himself in the first seven weeks. The 20-year-old was the nation?s top recruit coming out of Jeannette High School in Pennsylvania. His high school football notoriety was similar, but not on the scale, to that of LeBron James? high school basketball career. But Pryor is learning how to be more than a shotgun, spread offense quarterback who runs the ball.

?Terrelle ... knew what the criticism was,? Tressel said. ?That?s the position he plays. When you turn it over, you?re going to get criticized. Just like when you don?t win games, the coach is going to get criticized. That?s part of the deal. The longer you?re around it, the more you know that?s just the way it is.?

Criticism of Terrelle Pryor was flying hot and heavy a week ago.

After the Ohio State sophomore committed four turnovers in a loss at Purdue, the questions ranged from whether he was a lost cause at quarterback to whether he should even play quarterback at all.

"Any time you turn the ball over four times and you come back to your home, of course people are going to be criticizing you," Pryor said yesterday. "(But) I'm not going to listen.

"Just like Coach says, I'm going to come to work, and I am always going to be competitive. Hopefully, I'll just get a lot better in my decision-making."

Last week, Pryor ran for 104 yards and a touchdown and passed for 239 yards and two more scores in a 38-7 win over Minnesota. His next test is Saturday in a nonconference game against New Mexico State.

And the critics? Well, Pryor did have a slow start passing against the Gophers, and he did throw one interception just before halftime as the Buckeyes dominated yet led only 7-0.

What was lost on many was the overall effort. It marked just the third time an Ohio State quarterback rushed for more than 100 yards and passed for more than 200 in the same game.

Pryor did so this season against Toledo. The third time was by Troy Smith against Michigan in 2004, a win that set in motion his run to the Heisman Trophy two years later.

But Smith has told Pryor not to equate what he did as a third-year sophomore with what Pryor is doing as a second-year sophomore, even if Pryor has been the starter since the fourth game of last season.

"He told me, 'At this time, I wasn't even playing. I was sitting on the bench watching quarterbacks throw the ball and make plays. You can be better than me,' " Pryor recalled. "And everything he says, I'm so glued in, because I look up to Troy so much."
