QB/WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

Wow I must say... EXCELLENT WORK... Here's hoping Pryor gets a ring like VY too!

Agreed. That was a great piece of leg work. We can only hope that Pryor finds the gear that made Vince Young one of the best collegiate players of the past decade. If so, we will revisit about midway through Pryors thread and get a chuckle out of these conversations in a few years. :)

Since this has been a matter of debate for a while, i.e., the similarities between Vince Young and Terrelle Pryor and their progression at playing QB at the college level, I was struck by the similarity of their stats as passers in their respective sophomore years. BTW, both of them at this point in time in their careers were being questioned about their ability to pass the football by their respective fans....

the tale of the tape.....

Both of them came in being ranked #1 QB on by scout.

In their sophomore years they were/are.....

Vince Young (6-5, 225 lbs)....Terrelle Pryor (6-6, 235 lbs)

Vince Young's stats as a sophomore.....

Passing: 148/ 250 (59.2%) Avg:7.4 TD/INT : 12/11 Rating: 128.37

Terrelle's stats thus far....

Passing: 89/ 159 (56%) Avg:7.35 TD/INT : 18/8 Rating: 128.42

Hmm.....just found that comparison interesting. Obviously there were some differences in how they got to this point, such as TP playing in his freshman year and Vince did not. But, I am very hopeful that TP will impact the world of college football in much the same way as Vince Young did or maybe even surpass him. :oh:

ehh...

I was about to ask how relevant that is given rushing comparisons...

But I decided that as a Buckeye fan, I'm not sure I want to see the disparity.

Point one...

USC was set to destroy OSU... mindset was man we could have won we just came up short... Purdue was supposed to lose by 20-30... mindset after was.. man we didn't show up and got beat.. we can't let that happen again.

point two...

NFL QB's that succeed (as said before) look like robots due to reads and slight movements. Tom Brady doesn't run all over, Peyton manning looks like a freaking stiff back there, Big Ben makes reads and pumps then fires, Eli is a less mechanical version of his brother. Watch these guys play... they look like robots because reps turn into habits that create success. Watching film turns you into a read junkie. VY, Mike Vick, lol Akili smith, Cordell Stewart, Daunte Cullpepper all have had struggles in the NFL due to the fact that they can't outrun everyone like in college. You have to rely on your teammates more and make good reads. if you don't learn that you won't be successful.

point three...

My favorite parts of the video was TP stating that from now on he wants a "killer instinct" mentality. We have wanted that on offense for how long? And that he wants the fans to have faith in the offense as he does with his other teammates. I really feel good about how this year ends and how next year could be unbelievable.

There was a slight disparity as far as rushing stats are concerned....VY was rushing at an average of approx. 6.5 yds/carry, whereas TP has been rushing at more like 4.5. But I am not concerned as much with TPs ability to run. BTW, in his junior year VY improved to a 65% passer, TD/INT : 26/10 and a QB rating: 163.95. I am hoping TP shows a similar progression.

Does anybody think that Terrell will stay for his 2 years left at Ohio State. there could be a good possibility of 2 or 3 more losses down the road and
if that happens alot of fans will really be upset again and i wonder if this
could possibly discourage Terrell any further.

You mean leaving for the NFL early? With his current successes, not a prayer. I mean he could try, but no NFL team is gonna draft him.

Terrelle has a ways to go before we start talking about the NFL. He knows that.

Terrelle is one of the most competitive athletes Ohio State has ever had IMHO. He's going to take all of this criticism and use it as motivation, I guarantee it. We are going to find a lot out about our team this Saturday.

TP is not as good of a runner...at least not in our offense yet. However, this is a good comparison.
