QB/WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

So would it be going out on a limb to say you believe that TP's being used to his potential with the current game plan?

No, but to say he'd be VY in Ann Arbor is an absolute joke. With a spotty O-Line, he'd be getting hit more than he is as a Buckeye. He wouldn't have as many targets, and would still be behind in some of his progressions as he has been this season. I feel like he'd struggle anywhere he went... But the thing to remember is he's only a SOPH. That gives him potentially 2 1/2 years to be great. I like our odds. Once he starts looking at more than his first or second receiver in his progressions and stops staring down receivers (allowing DB's and LB'ers to bite on the pass), he will be absolutely fine.

There are a lot of criticisms to be made about the offense, but TP's struggles are more his doing than the scheme, imo.

With how tentative & uptight TP is right now, I don't think a read-option rushing attack would change that much.

Saine is a tough matchup on the edge on those option looks, but what good is that if teams can string Pryor out to the sidelines all game long? He's making life too easy on the defense with his play.

I don't want Brian Kelly or Rich Rodriguez. I want Hazell with actual power.

It's just like RR in the backyard brawl. They didn't need a different scheme, they needed different playcalls.

I keep going back in my mind when Terrell was used as a reciever in the Texas / Ohio State game for a great TD from Todd Boeckman. Texas sure as hell saw that coming and it worked regardless of what they did. That to me opened volumes of ideas for Tressel and his staff to work some kind of different options to use this talented player in many ways for the future. I thought we would see more of plays like this for the 2009 season but we have not seen anything that compares. He has speed, he has shown us that he can catch the ball. Or was this just a one time play that will not ever be tried again. To me he is just full of raw talent. Then again maybe Tressel has bigger plans for Terrell and we have just began to see the tip of the iceberg. Who knows. It all seems to be a mystery for right now.

Not sure if Texas "saw it coming"

If I remember right they sent the corner covering Pryor (and the Linebackers for good measure) after Beockman.

The safety covering Terrelle had little chance of stopping what was going to happen.

Good post overall but this caught my eye - I agree 100%. I have a buddy who I took to the IU game with me. He's not the "hardcore" fan type, and near the end of the game - while tOSU was passing all over IU on a late drive - I looked at him and asked where Tressel Ball went. I told him how Hazell was calling the plays and that particular drive was one where TP did not miss the 3-8 yard routes. Terrelle was "on." It was nice to see Terrelle in that "Hazell" offense, and despite what the talk everywhere is, Terrelle has had some flashes.

:15 (Wish I could find the reverse angle they showed on TV)

I've posted before, and I'll post again, our offense is still evolving - and after last week, I'll say TP is still evolving. Give it time, I wish the talk of this would die down - then again, we just lost to 1-5 Purdue and "our guy" Terrelle just turned the ball over 4 times, should have been 6. I can understand the heat he's getting, but everyone needs to keep giving him the time he needs. While I don't disagree with those who say he should have sat a series on the sideline - it does speak volumes to what we don't see and what we don't know. The argument is: "Todd Boeckman was benched after a loss to USC without Beanie." Again, IMO, this shows what we as the fans don't know and don't see. Some poster earlier mentioned it may have been a recruiting promise - I can see that being possible. However, I think Jim Tressel has more respect for the team and the game than to make lofty promises to a high school senior.

Nothing we say here will change anything anyways, so what can ya do? Seems like a classic "Trust the coaches."

Gonna get flamed for this one, but I completely agree with his former coach.

While his former coach may be correct if I am not mistaken that is not the type of QB Pryor wanted to be. Hence one of the reasons he came to OSU. So it seems rather irrelavent what his former coach thinks. If he does not want to be that type of QB and JT has told him he will be a more pro style QB than that is what needs to happen. Now because of how he played in high school it wil take some time to get to that level in college. One thing is for sure though if you keep trying to make him the next Mike Vick he will never turn into Troy Smiith.

I'd be happy if he made himself the next Terrelle Pryor. I think we see the similarities with VY and MV, and Troy Smith is a good role model for any young quarterback. Let's just not expect him to be like anyone other than himself. When he reaches that pinnacle, we might say that about some new budding HS quarterback - "he reminds me of Terrelle Pryor". I'd rather not compare him to anyone at this point. Let Terrelle be Terrelle.

I've got just one problem with this whole "Purdue loss may be the best thing that happened to me" line of thinking. Why didn't that sink in after the USC loss?

Just Sayin'

GO BUCKS!

(and Go Pryor...please...for the love of god, learn, progress, protect the rock, and do what we all think/we hope/we know you can do! (which includes more than running super fast to the sideline))

I don't know, losing to a perennial Top 10 team makes me think "Well we lost to a good team".... When you lose to an inferior opponent, you actually figure out what you need to improve on.

Without blocking no scheme will work and no QB will be effective!
It's gotta start up front.

Agreed. However, placing singular blame is misguided in this one. He has had good protection at times and also good execution on various run plays and has failed to execute his end.

Pieces of the puzzle need to all fit.
