QB/WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

Without blocking no scheme will work and no QB will be effective!
It's gotta start up front.

Agreed. However, placing singular blame is misguided in this one. He has had good protection at times and also good execution on various run plays and has failed to execute his end.

Pieces of the puzzle need to all fit.

I don't know, losing to a perennial Top 10 team makes me think "Well we lost to a good team".... When you lose to an inferior opponent, you actually figure out what you need to improve on.

Which is fine until that great team loses to Washington the next week...

Bingo.

I am fine with some agreeing with his former coach. That being said, he came to OSU to NOT be a running QB. That is the issue at hand. He is trying like hell to not be a runner......... It's not the scheme, it's a mental thing with him. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.

You know I was sitting there today at school and reading all the stories on him right now. I feel bad for kind of also piling on him to an extent. I admitt that after that purdue game I watched on Replay I was pretty disguisted in his play, but as Tressel said he really didn't play that poorly but just made REALLY bad decisions when he did make bad decision.

The thing I think of in this situation is what Mac Brown did to VY during his Sophomore year. He sat him down, and showed him his High School highlight film. He told him "this is the guy we need out there, what do we need to do to get this out of you" (or something along those lines). Vince Young said quite simply... Let.Me.Play.

Terrelle just needs to play HIS game. Man I just want to see this kid bust loose so badly. To run around, improvise, keep plays alive, and use his feet to move the chains. I actually think his High School coach was very accurate when saying he looks like a Robot, because to me it just looks like he's a forced fit into this offense. He's a tremendously gifted guy, and because of that he will succeed. The question is will we adapt and use his strengths more effectively or will we continue to pound away at the painful process of developing a system quarterback?

So long as this:
new+nfl+logo.JPG

is the goal, you should expect Pryor to try and do what it takes to obtain it.

The NFL doesn't want running QBs and Pryor didn't come to Ohio State to be a running QB. This isn't a matter of Tressel saying "I promise to turn you in to a pocket passer" it's a matter of Pryor deciding "I'm going to Ohio State because they're more likely to teach me to be a pocket QB than I will be at RR's Michigan or Oregon"

It bears noting also - the bulk of College QBs with TP's current skill set (feet first) don't amount to much in the league. The ones that succeed? Well.. they're "robots"

True... The bad thing for Terrelle is that VY, a primary runner in college, got big money in the first round and hasn't done that much so far (granted he's been a back up)

I'd just like to see them use his strengths to set up that pass. I suppose in due time maybe they will though?

VY was good for exactly 12 games in 2007. Once the defenses schemed to stop him and make him beat them with his arm, it was over and he hasn't been effective since and even worse, it's gotten into his head.

System QB? What "system" does tOSU run?

If VY doing jack shit in the NFL is bad for Terrelle, then Joey Harrington is bad for QB's, period...right?

Well, I'm no NFL scout, or agent, or QB coach, but I would hope TP could use his legs a little and still get enough reps as a pocket QB to please the "powers that be"

As it is, he's in the shotgun almost the whole game, and I think the NFL calls for some under center work... so... I guess what I'm saying is - there does seem to be some kind of "line" Ohio State is walking with him... between threatening teams with his legs, and letting him read a D and make the throw. I would like to see him take the free yards he's often rejecting to force a throw in there...

He, more and more, strikes me as the kind of guy who will focus on one thing until he masters it. That is to say, he already knows he can run, so he's going to throw and throw and throw until he's great at it. Even if it means not doing what he already does best. While that's a disadvantage in the short term, in the long term (assuming it clicks) he'll be quite a weapon.

While his former coach may be correct if I am not mistaken that is not the type of QB Pryor wanted to be. Hence one of the reasons he came to OSU

That is fine and dandy, but when I look at Pryor, I see a young Vince Young (pardon the pun). Look what he has done in the NFL. I personally do not see him every being an NFL QB. And I wasnt necessarily agreeing with the Michigan part of that comment, moreso that the scheme absolutely does not play to his strengths in the slightest. And even if Tress isnt calling the plays, I still see the same awful passing routes being run. Nothing ever to the middle, nothing ever to the tight end. In fact I dont know why we have tight ends. Heh, that sounded funny.

The middle of the field has been I think recently avoided though. In the beginning you're right the TE was a weapon but recently I haven't seen it much.

I hear ya Buckeyekicksbuttocks... I guess you know that's the only thing I truely wish he did. Pick up the yards on the ground when available, especially when there's nothing there through the air. You can tell he doesn't even THINK run sometimes because he can have 10yards infront of him but he stays behind the LOS and try's to throw. I suppose in the long haul it will benefit him, and eventually OSU.

As for Joey Harrington BUCKYLE... He just gives all Oregon QB's a bad name or was that Akili Smith? Actually it's probably both.
