QB/WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion, OSU HOF)

QB reads, OL play, route running and play calling are all factors in dealing with blitzes. I'm not smart enough to look at the MSU game film and say who was mostly at fault.

That said, the problem with blitzes from a defensive standpoint is that sometimes you get burnt. They blitzed all day and never got burnt. You gotta hang a good portion of that on coaching.

In the end there was nothing that happened in that game that gives me serious concerns regarding Miller in the long term.

This. It was almost like they didn't make any adjustments at all during the game, since it was such a close game wire to wire.

OL still had a horrendus outing, regardless of playcalling. Here's to hoping that they realize the mistakes they made, and roll out a much better, more dynamic gameplan against Nebraska.

"They" is the operative word here. The coaches the players, the QB, and the fans. Everyone has to get into the act of improving upon mistakes made. As fans we can be supportive and not boo. Braxton is growing up fast and leraning from his mistakes on the field is no different than learning how to ride his first bike. Fall down enough and it hurts. You learn how to stay balanced and move forward. This process is easy for an athlete. The players that surround him learn to deal with different situations, blitzes, coverages, better blocking, better running etc. Seems simple when you say it but adversity builds character. The coaches made mistakes here too and maybe they have more owness for what happened last week. This team imporoved from the Miami game to the following week agaist Colorado. I expect an even greater improvement going into week 6 against Nebraska. Think Bo Pelini will blitz? - you bet, but this time Braxton will remember how it feels to fall off his bike. Do it right a few times and he builds his confidence. They will make mistakes and they will improve. This team will learn to deal with adversity and get better every week. :osu:

Good luck with that happening. We as Buckeye fans have been spoiled the last several seasons. People are just getting impatient. I saw this team either being REALLY impressive out of the gate, or not doing much at all out of the gate. Unfortunately, we're seeing the latter, so far. That's just the way the cookie crumbles with young players. Some take longer to mature and adapt. Luckily for me, I got nothin but time! let's just hope it's a QUICK turn around!

Given all of the changes this year, losing a star QB and one of the best coaches in the game for starters, it was unrealistic for anyone to expect big things this season. Some "fans" are spoiled, and while they're being "impatient" they should remember the lyrics...

"time and change will surely show, how firm thy friendship..."

Friends are supportive. They don't [strike]whine like babies[/strike] boo.

I fully expect to watch them struggle, it's all part of learning to get better. I have time to watch and to wait. They'll get better every week and we will soon forget these words. :io:

When was the last time the offense made an adjustment during a game?

That would take someone to COORDINATE such a feat. Some football teams have what is called an offensive coordinator that performs this function. For tOSU the function must have been deemed unnecessary. (oh wrong thread, my bad).

Coincidentally, Braxton has taken the most of those sacks. When there is no threat of a pass, you send more people than the line can pick up. That's on the QB to get the ball out as quickly as possible. With Bauserman in, oddly enough, he can make those quick throws. Granted, they may not get there accurately, but he doesn't take many sacks.

Bauserman didn't enter until 14 minutes left in the game and was sacked 5 times. He a statue.

Braxton is the programs future. I think you stick with him. Fickell already explained the change against MSU as a way to get something going.

The coaching staff just needs to help him be successful. We'll reconvene Sunday to see what kind of adjustments have been made and whether we should back away from the edge or not.

Isn't that what everybody said about Zwick in 2004?

We don't know who the future is. It could be Miller, it could be Kenny G. I think we need to play Kenny G soon...
