I am willing to bet that attorney will be out of his job before the end of this year.... pretty stupid move by the attorney.

Let's see, the attorney handles code-of-conduct duties for the company and found something that seemed to be unethical. Looks like he did his job to me. Also, as someone else pointed out, once the violator was canned there was no concern of sharing any confidential attorney-client information. I would say the attorney did a good job in properly handling his duties and protecting his client, the company.

So let me get this straight ... last year this same guy was investigated for having Gamble do stuff for him and his company that clearly allowed the company to benefit from Gamble's status as a ball player. If Gieger is running such a clean program, then why was this ok? Because Gamble had other responsibilities? Spare me. Even though it may not violate the letter of the law, it definately violates the spirit. This is where the high road should have been taken. On top of that, the company was involved in another inident that resulted in 10 guys getting suspended? Gieger is an idiot. Why was this guy, this company, not totally cut off long ago? I know, it's because the game of college football is a fuking WHORE, and Geiger's just our local pimp.

If I'm reading this right the attorney is in house counsel. In other words an employee of the company who has a law degree. There would be no client/attorney relationship.

I cannot determine by the quality of the articles. They refer to him as "an attorney for Poly-Care Services." I assume he is in-house because there is no reference to him working for a law firm, but who knows.

I still do not like the fact OSU protects the identities of boosters who violate and how close they let some of these boosters get to the team (traveling with the team, attending closed practices, etc). The program is just looking for problems with that type of relationship. I'm sure they think they are making it safer because some of the boosters are sanctioned, but even sanctioned boosters can do illegal things.

Another employee, a company officer, said he filed an incident report after Baker approached him about finding jobs for Smith and freshman tailback Antonio Pittman.

This paragraph bothers me as much as any other. Does it not strike a little fear in anyone else that this is the tip of much larger iceberg? I don't want there to be a roll call of names of buckeye players.

The fact that Pittman's name is even brought up in the article should place him in the same category as Dukes for the game- there, but not dressed. I'm not saying either is guilty of anything, but the mere appearance of impropriety alone (in both cases) is cause to say to the players: 'We're sorry, but until all is cleared up, you don't dress for the game'

My hope is that this is not the start of a very messy shit storm for tOSU football.

I really hate to say this, but this is Troy Smith's second incident. He obviously knew this was agaisnt NCAA and Ohio State rules, it's time that Tressel show that he can be a disciplinarian. A one game suspension and missing spring practice for this offense is not enough! Troy should be either kicked off the team or suspended for the entire next season. He needs to be made an example of, we need to kick his ass so the next player who thinks of breaking the rules will decide a better course of action.

I still like Troy Smith a lot, he's a hell of an athlete and probably a good guy, but he knew what he did was breaking the cardinal rule of NCAA athletics.

Should Troy Smith be allowed a lot more slack because he had a fantastic game against UM? Last year he was convicted of Disorderly Conduct for a fight that involved women... now he's taking money from a booster... this after the entire MoC fiasco and numerous other incidents in the program.

Do you really think we should softly penalize him with one game for such an offense? What message will that send to the team? keep taking the money and if you get caught you'll just have to pay it back and watch from home for one game?

Maybe I'm losing my mind, but we've had more arrests and more scandals in the last 3 years than we've had in the last 2 decades. Maybe, just maybe we need to get a little tougher on our players... this is one circumstance where a one game suspension is not enough.... He's not only jeapordizing himself, he's jeapordizing an entire year of Boeckman's eligibility and seriously tarnishes the reputation of our University. Imo, this is not minor...

It's all good if we get him back by Texas next year, right?

LOL, I watched the Michigan game yesterday, Troy was simply amazing! I still like the guy.... but taking money from a booster.......................... especially after the Maurice scandal - it's inexcusable.

This attorney represents the interests of Poly-Care, not individual employees and certainly not individual former employees.

Smith's "incident" outside the dorms last year was seriously overblown and has no relevance here: he was appropriately reprimanded for that minor team infraction (essentially just a curfew violation).

But I do agree that Troy's performance against UM cannot be considered when dealing with these new allegations; there is no gray area when it comes to receiving benefits from boosters.

I dunno. I think if this were the same team that started the year, and Zwick remains as erratic in his passing, then it is merely a slap on the wrist. But with a capable Zwick with two new receivers, a vastly improved line, I think JZ can step up and make TS really work hard to get his spot back (which still might only happen after an injury).

Plus we have Boeckman sitting in the wings who seems to be a very popular player talentwise among the coaches.

So while I think in general some kind of example needs to be made, I still think this could prove to be quite a serious punishment.
