bukIpower: "See what you just said sloppy, just showed you're being a homer as I would love to do."
I'm not being a homer. I just spelled out reality. Is it morally correct that the Alumni & Administration is going to "look the other way" regarding the transgressions of the program because the Head Coach can beat scUM? Maybe not. But is it reality? Yes, it is.
"Unlike you however, I'm tired of this and I'm tired of having to back my university up."
Um, unlike you (apparently), I'm not letting Mike Lupica and ESPN the Magazine be my moral compass. I knew this stuff was happening, and guess what? It happens at EVERY major program, and even the minor ones. I don't need to back my University up to anybody! Like I said, this crap has always happened, but its a story now because of our recent success. If I wasn't offended before these stories came out, then why should I be now??
My first Quarter at OSU, I met a lot of the basketball players from playing ball at the cages and at Brown Gym. Coincidentally, I saw that each of them: Greg Simpson, Derek Anderson, etc. were driving the same EXACT SUV: same color, same year, same accessories, etc. Did I think this was pure coincidence?? Did they all come to OSU under a common love for the same car? Hell no. I didn't feel a need to "back my University up" then, and I sure as hell don't need to now because moron sportswriters (with an agenda) tell me I need to now.
"Hell no, but I'm merely asking at what point do we look at tressel with a hard look?"
Ok, I'll tell you when Tressel gets a hard look (reality again): a.) when the school can't consistently win 10 games or compete for a National Title, or b.) when he can't beat dUMb anymore. Then, and only then, will Tressel get a hard look. Is it right? Maybe, maybe not. But is it reality? Damn skippy.
"but our team doesn't have a problem with drugs, women, beer, and any other party material."
?????. My man, I enjoy reading your other posts, but you're coming off as very naive on this one. We don't have any problems with drugs?? Do the names Marco Cooper and Sammy Maldanado mean anything to you? No beer problems?? How many DUI's has this team had over the years? Wasn't our starting QB suspended for a DWI three years ago? And women?? What about Irizarry? You think these kids don't fuck about 500 different chicks over the course of their college career? You think all 500 (multiplied by 100 players = 50,000) go off without any hint of a problem?? How about the millions of other incidents regarding drugs/beer/sex that you DON'T read about in the paper? Open your eyes, man. This is not "the Wonderful Land of Oz," this is the real world. Live in it.
"if you don't think for one second that tressel can't keep his players away from them you're crazy"
My man, you don't know who controls College Football: THE ALUMNI. If the Alumni didn't like Tressel, he'd be gone in a heartbeat. Look what happened to Terry Bowden at Auburn, or Ron Zook at Florida, or Tyrone Willingham at Notre Dame, or what about Frank Solich?? The Alumni for the respective schools was even the lead NEGOTIATOR and RECRUITER for Florida and ND in the Urban Meyer talks. Ohio State's Alumni base includes a lot of rich & powerful men and women in this country: they control Tressel and the Buckeyes, not the other way around. There's no major change that can happen at this University without the Alumni's approval: if you think otherwise, then you're incorrect.
"he could tell his players "if you as so much talk to these men, you're gone""
Dude, part of Tressel's job description IS to make himself, his coaches, and his athletes ACCESSIBLE to the Alumni. The Ohio State Administration wants to make money. That happens by Jim Tressel, Troy Smith, Andy Katzenmoyer, etc. glad-handing the rich Alumni to drum up school spirit and DONATIONS. How would you ever think or propose that Tressel could keep these kids away from the Alumni?
What you, in essence, are proposing is that Tressel lock these kids up in a cage in between pracices and the games. Anything short of that will not accomplish anything that you're proposing.
