QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

OK - I'm now completely confused.

Saw in the threads that this is not a grades issue. Fine. Understand hwo that fits the re-instatement '05 info.
Next on radio driving in I hear this sound-bite quoteing tOSU that theTroy issue is "not a legal issue." Doesn't that take glad-handing $100 bills out of the picture?

effect on recruiting

This may hurt tOSU with character kids, but for thosa pampered HS Superstars looking for a handout not an opportunity..OSU is beginning to look lke the school of choice. Boosters eager to line your pockets if you can throw a football, a coach willing to give 2nd and 3rd chances, and an adoring fan base who will overlook anything to beat the scum. is this what we want to be???

yep. when a school finds out and immediately suspends the player.....it makes others just like him want to come to this school. :roll1:

WWWHHHOOOAAAA! We're getting ahead of ourselves here. Let's just see what this is all about here before we start blowing away the new recruits. Next year still looks incredibly bright for this team, with or without Smith.

:oh: :io:

the very first time that a player gets the permanent boot from the team for pulling just that kind of shit, you'll see an immediate and complete stop to that behavior.

That is perfectly on the nose. I said it as well, and I couldn't agree more. It is very simple- Tressel/Geiger need to clamp down on this crap and make a statement. Clarett got booted, but it was for much more than this- the guys may think that an innocent $100 won't hurt, will it? Yes, it will. And a guy who screws up like this (not to mention a guy who's screwed up several times) should be the example. You screw up, you don't play for OSU.

he can say whatever he wants....but...there comes a time to call it as it is....i mean people it is what it is.....what more do you need...???
What does this mean? Most people are trying to guess what happened and others are playing 20 questions with no hints of what is going on at all and we are supposed to draw some sort of conclusion on the integrity of the football staff or the team or even Gieger? Backstabbing attacks with no facts not only hurt the people involved they also hurt the credibility of the people making unverified accusations. I am not going to pass judgement on JT, the staff or the team until we find out exactly what the hell is going on.

See what you just said sloppy, just showed you're being a homer as I would love to do. Unlike you however, I'm tired of this and I'm tired of having to back my university up. I wish I can just go back to the days when I had to stick up for our "play everyone till the end days". Now do I want Tressel Fired? Hell no, but I'm merely asking at what point do we look at tressel with a hard look?

As for The university being 2nd biggest in the nation? Well thats just too bad ain't it? Any coach that takes this jobs knows his responsibilities and what he needs to do to keep this program in line. Bottom line is right now its not getting done at all? Now you can go on about the drugs and all that crap, but our team doesn't have a problem with drugs, women, beer, and any other party material. It has problems with getting money from boosters, and if you don't think for one second that tressel can't keep his players away from them you're crazy. There's lots a coach can do, and for instance, he could tell his players "if you as so much talk to these men, you're gone". I promise you if he said that, the players stop. He just needs to say SOMETHING to put the fear of god into these boys, and THAT, a coach can do.

Trust me I'm as happy with tressel as any when it comes to winning ball games, his appearance, and even the way he talks. If you ask me if I'm happy with the way the program is going behind the scenes, then No, No I'm certainly not.

I'm starting to have a real problem with Goofy. Going back almost exactly a month ago goofy started a thread stating that Tressel was directing less fortunate players to boosters.

NCAA investigating Tressel's days at Y-State

<HR style="COLOR: #888888" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->a family member of mine is close friends with Tressel's former offensive coordinator at Y-State and he said that he was called to be interviewed by the NCAA. They want to know what went on at Y-State while Tressel was there.

Some alarming news.....apparently, the booster payments have some weight with this guy. Tressel may have helped out with the needier players, ala, Jim O'Brien. Not to freak anyone out, but this is coming from one of Tressel's former coaches who absolutely loves coach and would like to coach with him at OSU. Tressel probably did know about some of the things that went on. We were in agreement that most of the accusations are a bunch of crap, but there is some truth to the money to certain players part.

I'll let you know what else I hear
<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->__________________

Several time goofey stated he knew this was a fact. Assistant coaches were going to testify, it was an open and shut case. Tressel was filthy dirty, and only the NCAA turning a blind eye would save him. The whole YSU thing appears to be complete and total Bull Shit. Please refer to last post on YSU thread, great sources.

Now Goofy is at it again, same agenda, same bull shit, different thread.

Ok...someone had to start a thread up..

I heard last summer that there may be a few players dumb enough to take money from boosters. Even going as far as to say the same people that helped out Mo may be still out there helping current players. Either Tressel really is or was involved in some of this, or we have a case of total lack of institutional control. Either way, someone is gonna have to take the shit sandwich.

Got this from another board:

Ginn Sr on Cleveland radio stated that Troy was given money by a family member to buy Xmas gifts, however because it was not an IMMEDIATE family member, it is considered an NCAA infraction, albeit a minor one. He has returned the money/merchandise and suspension will most likely be for just one game (outside chance of two). What a shame.

Even the FSU kids got more than one game.Lets send a message this is wrong . Maybe 3 or 4 games at least, maybe it should be one year? Keep him on schollie but let him sit...
In case anyone needs a refresher on the Free Shoes incident...

From msnbc.com - http://msnbc.msn.com/id/4459202/

In October 1999, Florida State all-American wide receiver Peter Warrick and Laveranues Coles were arrested and pleaded guilty to petty theft of clothes and shoes at Dillard’s department store. It was not the first time “Florida State” and “free shoes” had been used in the same punch line. In FSU’s (a.k.a. Free Shoes University) run to the national championship in 1993, nine Florida State players violated NCAA rules by allowing agents to bankroll a shopping spree at a Foot Locker store.

In the more recent violation, Warrick and Coles received $412.38 worth of clothes and shoes for only $21.40 from a Dillard's clerk both were friendly with. They were charged with felony grand theft. Warrick was only suspended for two games. Coles was thrown off the team.

Since this is not TS first offense, I imagine he will sit the bowl game and at least the first game of the year.

I'm going to withhold a lot of my comments until I truly find out what is going on, but I will say this. A line has to be drawn, and someone has to be made an example of. I'm not for the "death penalty"....aka boot off the team for this sort of thing, but I think that we need to stop the bleeding. I do realize that these kinds of things will go on at a university, and they cannot be controlled. But how will the kids ever learn if you only make them sit in a corner for 5 minutes? Soon they will be back to the same old shit.

The thing that pisses me off the most about this thing is the simple fact that Smith knew what was going on with the whole MoC. fiasco, and yet he decided to still do what was wrong. He has had character issues dating back to his high school days, and although he probably is a kickass person to know, he has shown no discipline off the field in his career at OSU. We cannot have the leader of the team setting this kind of example, because it will open the floodgates even more in the future, unless you cut it off at the source.

I almost have to laugh when I think back to the "Zwick to transfer" talk. I have this deep down feeling that Zwick basically looked at it as sooner or later he knew Smith would fuck up, and boom, Zwick is back.

I will say one more thing, if Zwick has a great Alamo Bowl game, and plays very well, Troy Smith's victory over Michigan in 2004 may be his biggest accomplishment in an Ohio State uniform.
