Dominated at Texas in a matchup of #1 vs 2. Won the most hyped OSU Mich game ever the same season in another 1 vs 2... just to name a couple gamesa comment at a Canadian newspaper sports site: unfair??
I appreciate the excitement (and hopefulness) that you all are expressing, but Troy Smith has had a way of playing up his capabilities in low-pressure situations, and against poor competition...when he has had to play well, he has fallen flat (with the exception of a bowl game against Notre Dame in his, I think, junior year). The year he was Heisman, he lost the National Championship game for Ohio State to a team that was not as good (Florida) and never showed the ability to take over a game when it counted...it will be interesting to see what he can do this weekend...
And Baltimore's coach commented that, even though he and Doug Flutie were both Heisman winners, Flutie had what it took to make a team better...it'll be interesting to see if Smith has grown into that ability...
Troy was 3-0 as the starting QB against arch-rival Michigan. In 2004 Ohio State was a heavy underdog at home: WIN. In 2005 Ohio State trailed by nine points with seven minutes remaining on the road at Michigan: WIN. In 2006 Ohio State was ranked #1 and Michigan #2 in one of the most anticipated and highest rated regular season college football games in history: WIN. He also lead OSU to a road win over defending national champ and #1 ranked Texas in 2006, and a blowout over Notre Dame in 2005 which featured over 600 yards of offense.a comment at a Canadian newspaper sports site: unfair??
