All can not be blamed on Troy, but he isn't comfortable after the snap in the vast majority of plays. Canons tend to have the same rate of fire at short and long range. No ability to fake...a product of a system that doesn't incorporate deception to any degree. No consistent setup and no pump fake from setup or run. Scampering to and fro merely allows D to close. OLine fair, but got eaten up more than not. Troy holds onto the ball too long...he misses his early decision point on many (not all) passes, then pulls the ball down almost immediately. Good motivational base, good motivation to succeed, but TS will never attain much more than an "average" rating at QB overall, imho. I think his leadership skills at this point might outmatch Zwick's, but success and overcoming adversity create leadership, not failing to hammer in 2 or 3 times in red zone when the team is there on the 8, the 12 and the 6...and fails for any reason to score 6. Just my old-man opinion. The magic isn't there yet. And believe me, I don't want to take anything away from Troy Smith...he has talent and attitude to succeed.
We have way too much WR, TE and RB talent to be flummoxed as we were today and in our other 3 losses. It's a TEAM effort, and the TEAM shares the good and the bad play.
Note how Purdue QBs mostly looked absolutely relaxed prior to toss. Orten is a master and our rush or non-rush on him made him look like he was passing from a lazyBoy in the last series. The starting QB looked as qualified in 80% of his plays for Purdue.
The Buck backfield has yet to see the game in slo-mo...that quality of play that separates the good from the damned good.
No question Bucks have marvelous talent all around. Question is: how does Tressel shape and guide and put plans and training into effect to take advantage?
