QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

What a [censored]ing piece of [censored]

After praising the second coming of christ, Matt "matty ice" Ryan he proceeds to rip Brett Favre and says he's never been particularly smart, in reference to his convo with Matt Millen. But to say Troy sucks and he'll never be a Pro Quarterback?!?? I hope they find him in a car trunk outside of Philly.

Sal Pal is all of the above and more. Remember, he's the d-bag that baited Marge Schott into the debacle of Hitler comments back in the early 90's...eventually leading to baseball forcing her to sell her majority stake in the Reds...the last successful owner that franchise has seen in nearly 20 years.

Grossi's Scouting Report: Ex-OSU star Smith helping revive Ravens' dormant offense

by Tony Grossi Tuesday October 28, 2008, 6:20 PM

The Baltimore Ravens intended to head into the season with Ohio State Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith as their starting quarterback. A serious tonsil infection derailed Smith and put rookie Joe Flacco on the field faster than the club wanted. But when the Ravens make their annual trip to Cleveland on Sunday, Smith, indeed, could play in his first NFL game against his hometown team.
It might not be at quarterback, though.
Fully recovered from his illness, Smith made his season debut in a Baltimore rout over Oakland last week in a special offensive package that uses him and Flacco. In that game, Smith lined up next to Flacco five times in the shotgun formation.
On three occasions, Smith ran with the ball, gaining 13 yards. Another time, Smith received the handoff from Flacco and then threw to Flacco singled up on a linebacker. The gimmick play worked for a 43-yard gain.

The Smith package, which could be enlarged as the season proceeds, is a result of offensive coordinator Cam Cameron's creative attempts to manufacture some offense without any big-play receivers.

Had it not been for the tonsillitis, the former Heisman Trophy winner would have been given control of Baltimore's offense, and after that, who knows what could have transpired?

Derek Anderson, after all, was only supposed to get the Browns to the halfway point last year before Brady Quinn was to take over. And we all know how that has worked out.

Instead, the future started a little early in Baltimore, with Flacco winning the job out of camp despite spending most of his collegiate career playing in the FCS (formerly I-AA).

"I think (Smith) has handled it exactly how you would expect him to handle it. He's a first-class guy, he's a team player and a highly competitive, world-class athlete," Harbaugh said. "He wants to contribute and he wants to be a part of our process and our success moving forward. He wants to get on the field any way he can and be a part of it. He's been tremendously supportive of his fellow teammates, including Joe (Flacco). He's a solid team player and he's a competitive guy and you respect and admire the way he's handled everything he's gone through."

Sounds exactly like what Jim Tressel used to say about him during his time with the Buckeyes.

Former Ohio State QB Troy Smith heads back home as the Ravens' new X-factor - A blog about sports by The Baltimore Sun's Bill Ordine
[...]

However, head coach John Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron apparently believe that for the Ravens' attack to be successful, it has to use the entire roster of offensive players, drawing on the strengths each player brings to the game plan. As a result, Smith's snaps at quarterback in the win over the Raiders included an option play with rookie running back Ray Rice that went for 21 yards and a perfect downfield pass to fellow QB Joe Flacco good for 43 yards.

This week, Smith and the Ravens head to Cleveland, Smith's hometown, where he had to work his way through some rough times before battling his way to become Ohio State's starting quarterback and winning the Heisman Trophy. It's unclear whether Smith will ever get to be the starting quarterback here in Baltimore -- although the bumps in the NFL road change depth charts in a heartbeat -- but at the moment, he's become another arrow in Cam Cameron's offensive quiver. And, an extremely effective one

Smith running to daylight -- baltimoresun.com

Great article. Great press for TS. Good to see that at least some are able to see the real Troy shine through down in Md. Jackson's quote, which I've bolded for emphasis, may as well be JT talking.

Smith running to daylight

From Cleveland to Ohio State to Ravens, Troy Smith's resolve has carried him through

By Ken Murray
October 31, 2008

In the beginning, and for a long time, his lack of height was what was going to hold back Troy Smith. At other times, it was his attitude, a hard shell cast on the mean streets of Cleveland. More recently, it was his fragile health.

But by now, you know there is no holding back Troy Smith, of course.

The gritty neighborhood where he grew up in Ohio couldn't do it. Physical stature wasn't enough to keep him down, and neither could a severe bacterial infection in his throat this summer.

The No.2 quarterback on the Ravens' depth chart knocks down obstacles like dominoes. Told as a teenager he wasn't a college quarterback, he not only started at Ohio State, but he also won the Heisman Trophy. Bounced out of a starting job by a tonsil infection in August, he resurfaced last week as a valuable weapon in the retooled Ravens offense.

Smith not only keeps reinventing himself, but he also climbs to new heights with each challenge. It is as if he has a blueprint to life that only he can see. And he follows it devoutly.

"The guy's a natural-born leader," said Hue Jackson, the Ravens' quarterbacks coach. "The skills he possesses as a young man, a lot of people don't have that. That part of Troy is special. And people gravitate to him."

I didn't watch the game, but when I saw Flacco's name come across the bottom of the screen with stats I said to myself, "(explitive)." I hate wishing awful things upon anyone, but I really want Troy to succeed.

Well, I guess Flacco is the starter for sure now. It's a darn shame, since I think Troy could easily be a successful NFL QB. Troy's illness really hurt his future. Darn shame. He is a great field general. He's proven it every time he's taken the field.

With Flacco's unexpectedly excellent rookie season, Troy's future in Ballmer is as a backup. Makes me sad, but there it is.

:(

No, he has no future in Baltimore. He's proven he can at least compete for a starting job. There's no way he sticks around in Baltimore just to run a couple trick plays.
