QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

He never really had good games against good D's i.e. Texas #1, Penn St x2, and Iowa 3 years ago.

Are you serious?

He played half the game against UT last year, at most, and was constantly being shuffled in and out of the game. And I guess we'll ignore the fact that that was his first game in like 9 months.

Iowa 3 years ago was about the first meaningful game he EVER played in, and even that game he didn't start and only played b/c Zwick got knocked out of the game.

As for PSU this year, I guess you couldn't tell this on TV, but I was at that game, and for most of the time it was pouring down raining, one of his picks was on a deflection, and several of his passes were dropped by our receivers.

You need to look at more than just stats, or you run the danger of doing ridiculous things like claiming Brady Quinn should've won the Heisman this year.

One final thing: you must have missed his performance against scUM this year...

He still has the senior bowl, the combine/his workouts to make up ground. 2nd round might be too high, however there is talent, I doubt he falls to the 5th or 6th like some said... Third or fourth is more likely imo... but then again what do I know. I figured the FL receiver last year was a first rounder, he went in the second, I also figured the other USC back would go much earlier than he did. I didn't think Mangold would sneak into the first round, and I though Ashton would go higher than the third... I guess that's why I'm not a GM :tongue2:

Thank you Troy for everything you've done for The Ohio State University and the State of Ohio! I could not pick a better person to represent two things that I care very, very much about.

You've definitely proven to be one of the best Buckeye's to every wear scarlet and gray. Congratulations on an amazing career at tOSU and best of luck in the pros!

Don't look now but there is a thread on old Bucknuts asking whether Zwick should have come in for the 2nd half...

I wonder if there will be any Smith vs. Zwick debates next season?

I wondered when that would come up. If anybody thinks that Joe Willie Namoth could have done better with no Ginn, that line and play calling, they are insane. Actually we have fine evidence how Zwick performed under those circumstances... see pre-Iowa 2005. It wasn't pretty.

Edit: By the way, I was one of those backing Zwick in 05. I was wrong. I admit it. We lost and Zwick couldn't have changed it.

Kind of off topic, but I was just watching the season-capping episode of Buckeye Weekly with Jim Tressel, and they were talking about the players who won awards or were finalists for awards. This got me thinking, should the awards circuit be saved for after the bowls?

I don't buy into the "Heisman jinx," but I'm sure it provided extra motivation to Florida players to get after Troy. Plus, after Vince Young's performance in last year's Rose Bowl many people thought he deserved it over Bush (myself included). I just find it puzzling why they hand out awards for the performance of players over the season when the season isn't even over yet. Thoughts?

PS: I in no way mean to say TS doesn't deserve the Heisman. I still believe he was the best player this year, regardless of the outcome of the NC game.

No.

Those same demented fools will instead be quibbling over Boeckman, Schoenhoft, with a few in Henton's corner and soothsayers talking up Pryor as the future answer for our prayers. Notably, they will do this no matter how well Boeckman performs.

i would have, rewatch the game, putting in some fresh faces served the defense well.

he had guys open down the field. he had time to step up into the pocket, he had oppurtunites to throw the ball away. troy played awful. im sure troy is embrassed, more so than his mistake in taking money, more so than being arrested outside of morril. he laid an egg, that i can live with. the way he carried himself i cant. i just cant. more than a handful of guys didnt show up, and im not talking in a funk showed up. flat out a "she" didnt show up a la 1995. the reality is i doesnt really bother me, i wont have to look myself in the mirror every morning knowing what he knows. knowing that i was fucking around on the sideline, knowing that i was playing with my socks all the time, knowing that and what ever else i dont know. though that seems like a rant, you should see what i had orginally typed in my trip to the desert thread, i surely would have been banned.

i have no problem with the loss, i have no problem with a bad game, the thing that gets to me is a pathetic apathetic approach...

What does this mean? I watched the game on TV, and I have no idea what you're talking about. It's clear you were at the game, but those of us who weren't have no idea what you're talking about--can you go into more detail?
