QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

I was absolutely shocked to see Russell with a passer rating above Smith last night. No question the guy is a specimen, but I just don't see him as the kind of guy who can manage a football game.

Kieper is probably right. Happens every year, people throw away on field performance and get wowed (or un-wowed) by numbers like a 40 time and height and such.

Edit: Early in the year... after the Texas game, I think.. I heard Kieper say that in his opinion Troy Smith would be the #1 QB taken, ahead of Quinn. I guess Mel didn't realize that Smith is a shrimp at the time.

Kipers said that Russell would go so high because defenders have trouble getting him down and that he can complete passes with people on his back.

Hmmm, I can't ever remember Troy doing that. Russell is just the flavor of the week for him.

Smith didn't crack Kipers list of top 25 SR's until after the tsum game while Quinn was high on it all season. I can't believe he would have said that. Possibly another talking head, but I doubt it was "the hair". His articles are arcived if you have insider, so you could look that up.

It was "the hair" and I am certain of it. I don't doubt what you say about his articles (which, incidentally, I won't be checking) I'm telling you what he said on the radio.

I think that Troy will be drafted in the early 2nd round, just because of his size. I think that the perception is, Troy is a smaller version of Vince Young. And we all know that is not true. Vince can not win a game if he had to sit in the pocket and throw. And living in Texas, it seems very clear that all Black Quaterbacks that will come down the pipe now and in the future, will be compared to Vince. What a shame.... The scouts will see Troy has a much better arm than Brady. And when I say much better, I mean, the ability to throw all routes with better accuracy and completion percentages. I think all the q.b's coming out are not even close to what Troy can and does offer to the one team that selects him. Troy will make the lucky team a true winner in attitude, class, and integrity. :osu: :osu: :osu: :osu:

Hell, I posted somewhere in this thread, I believe, that Kieper had TS going in the mid-20's of the first round. I posted that right after hearing him say it on whatever show was interviewing him. So what has happened between then and now?

Not that it matters. Just kind of thinking out loud...

EDIT: Here it is...

FWIW, Kiper had him going around the 20th pick of the draft earlier tonight. Middle to low 1st rounder and I have no reason to disagree at this point...

after all is said and done, teams will realize who and what TS is and they wont live off of scouts writing down Troy Smith: 5'11". He's 5'11", so what, look at what he's done. If Brady Quinn and Jamarcus Russel are so much better, why didnt they win the Heisman. teams are going to smarten up and say, "Hey, look at this guy, look what he's done at Ohio State. He's an outstanding QB and can lead a football team.

My projection is that Smith will go around pick 23-29 but if not, no later than top five or six in the second.

Quinn shot up three inches after losing to Michigan.

You guys have to realize, Keplers big Board isn't HIS opinion. He goes around asking scouts what there opinion is on certain prospects is, then he makes a list on the feedback. Troy Stock, for some teams is rather high, yet for otherteams he is rather low because his height, witch happens to give him the position he has on Mels board.

Don't worry guys, Troy's Stock will increase as Scouts start breaking down Troys film from this year.
Troy needs to have a good senior bowl(I wish Quinn wasn't in the game, he is taking time away from Troy, eather way I think we will find out who the true better QB will be)

The Sr. Bowl is only one factor. It is scouts first time to be up close and personal with the players. BQ being there won't affect TS at all. Performance is only so much also. Workouts are a bigger factor in draft stock than anything. Of course this doesn't even count the combine where draft stock is really determined.

I've said it in here before, once teams sit and talk with Troy and find out what a humble guy he is and how he has learned from his one mistake, his stock will shoot up. Character counts in today's NFL as teams are looking for PR as much as players.

I don't think that this bowl will have that much impact on Troy. The pros already know most of what they need to know. I feel that the combine is where he will make or break.
