QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

I'm afraid of bama's D. I think some of the other ones are highly rated moreso b/c of inept offenses in the SEC.

Bama isn't going to go to the BCS. They will lose to Auburn next week or Georgia in the SEC Championship game.
Personally I think we would have trouble scoring against Cryami in the OB, or LSU, Auburn, Bama, or Georgia in the SB (IIRC the Big Least champ will go to the SB because they get the last choice). Not that we would lose, just have trouble scoring. If we were to get ND in the FB I think it's more of a shoot out. If we were lucky enough to get ND in the FB it would be the highest rated game of the year. If we lose to scum we are probably going to have to play one of the better SEC teams.

if we lose to um, couldn't we end up playing bama?

I gotta agree with Fin here, you can't post Smith's passing stats from the NU game as indicative of anything. I'm sure if a passing game was required, Smith would have been up to the task. His pick was a poor pass, I will say that. But, then, he'd gone since... what.. PSU since throwing a pick?

There was the pick at Indiana where the DB jumped Santonio's route near the goal line and ran it back over 60 yards. That would be the only one in his 4-game stretch of 10 TD's and 1 pick.

If Bama wins the Iron Bowl, they don't go to the SEC Championship game unless LSU loses at Ole Miss or against Arkansas.

Bama has an outside shot at #4 in the BCS. If Miami and LSU lose their CCG's, Bama and VaTech will be battling tOSU for the #4 spot in the BCS, behind USC, Texas and Penn St, asuming those 3 win out. The #3 and #4 spots carry an automatic BCS bid for those that didn't win their conference, #4 only gets it if #3 was a conference winner, they don't award both at-large spots in that manner. That keeps ND alive even if Penn St., Miami, and LSU all lose, and Bama/VaTech end up #3 and #4.

From the Michigan Monday article:

Michigan will almost certainly be focused on containing Troy Smith’s scrambling after he played the role of German Shepherd to their position as “fire hydrant” a year ago.

Columbus
- Ohio State vs. Michigan is the yardstick for success here, but how do you measure its effect last year on Troy Smith?
It both made the Buckeyes' junior quarterback from Glenville High School and unmade him. It promised great things for the future, and it spoiled them.
Smith was suspended for the Alamo Bowl and the first game of this season for taking $500 in improper benefits from a booster. The contact between booster Robert Q. Baker and Smith began in the spring, but the payment came to light after Smith became "Mr. Touchdown" against Michigan.
He made no play the equal of Ted Ginn Jr.'s run into legend with a punt return against Michigan. He did make a day-long spree of big plays - Smith bursting down the field while the winged helmets were tethered to the ground, Smith hurling a long touchdown pass on the first series, Smith almost making more plays against the Wolverines than Texas' Vince Young did against them in the Rose Bowl.
The suspension didn't matter in the Alamo Bowl, but it did in the second game this year against Texas. After Young outdueled Smith, who alternated at quarterback with Justin Zwick, the bitter joke was that the price for a national championship at Ohio State was $500.
Sometimes, Smith seemed to try to do too much this year. He has scored nine touchdowns. Still, OSU coach Jim Tressel, asked why Smith doesn't pitch out more often on the option near the goal line, joked: "You sound like one of our running backs."
Tressel decries the "highlight culture." Fans saw Smith be so great against Michigan so many times on "SportsCenter" that it became what he was supposed to do. No one could live up to that game and that ride off the field on the shoulders of fans.
"I don't look back at last year's game," Smith insisted.
Junior receiver Santonio Holmes said Smith was rusty against Texas and wasn't trying to replay the highlight DVD. "He was excited to get back on the field," Holmes said. "As he got more comfortable [over the season] he stopped making mistakes."

Yet Smith's interception was the difference in the Buckeyes' other loss, to Penn State. Penn State's Michael Robinson, although bigger than Smith, like Young, proved more elusive.
Tressel's quarterbacks have to make good decisions. That value system shows how short is the leash at Ohio State. They want another Craig Krenzel -- a technician, not an artist; a carpenter, not a poet. The offense is not designed to produce big numbers at quarterback.
"I'm much more mature this year, making plays within the context of the offense," said the new, presumably wiser Smith.
Asked if the season that had such promise would have been different had Smith not broken the rules, Holmes said: "I can't say that. And I can say that. We had to go with what happened to him, but he made mistakes that cost us opportunities. All we have to look forward to now is having him back."
Michigan made a star of Smith. But celebrity can be a black hole. It swallowed up Smith, who took Ohio State's national title dreams with him.
Now he speaks, seemingly earnestly, of the team, especially the seniors. "Their time here is dying down," he said. "I'm sad, but at the same time, I rejoice for them."
A year after the hallelujah chorus for him, Smith praises the team he leads. It is a valuable lesson, but a hard one to learn belatedly.

If this has been mentioned already...then I guess i'll just be repeating somebody else...but I didn't see it.

Troy Smith is THE ONLY quarterback in America to Rush for 10 TDs and throw for 10 TDs this year. If he isn't going to pass for TDs agaisnt you, he'll run for TDs. He has 23 TDs this year...the man is a TD machine. With our defense...and Antonio Pittman...we might not need Troy Smith to throw the ball much to win this game. If Troy is 7/12 with 77 yards...then we win this game big...becasue it means we ran the ball extremely well... if we only pass 12 times.

Wow, good stuff. I didn't realize he had been in the endzone that much this year.

Another stat I believe is interesting is that in last year's Michigan game, Troy rushed for around I think 146 yards, but that 104 of those yards were when things broke down in the pocket and he made things happen with his legs.

Troy Smith, now a junior, was the hero a year ago as Ohio State upset Big Ten co-champion Michigan 37-21 in Columbus. He accounted for 386 yards total offense and three touchdowns in that win. Now, on the eve of his second start against Michigan, Smith looks ahead to The Game. He and others discuss Smith's rise to being the Big Ten's most efficient passer. Click here for more.

I think today Troy Smith cemented himself into that special list of all time greats. Great thing for us is that we have him for another year.

I think anyone that has doubts in Smith should put them to bed, he is a gamer......and a slayer of Michigan.
