QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

My statement was "Troy's TD/interception ratio for all games this year is better" than those other 3 QB's. That's a mathematical fact. If you consider mathematical facts to be 'a whole lot of misleading', whatever that means, I guess you're entitled to that opinion.

the whole lot of misleading is probably taking it a bit far. but we're talking about compairing 10 td's with 3 int's to 19 tds and 6 ints. imo those numbers are so close that i would consider them a wash in a qb compairson. not something to come to any conclusions over. maybe i misunderstood what your point was. but it seemed to me that some are trying to put ts into the top echilon of college qb's. personally i don't think he is there yet.

i see people jumping to the exact same conclusions they did at this point last season. troy smith finally found his groove and that we suddenly have a prolific offense again. im not saying either statement is untrue. we certainly have the talent. but forgive me if im not as quick to jump on the ole bandwagon this time around.

findlay, i brought up the rushing stats because i figured someone would reply with, "he doesn't throw as much because he runs for so many yards".

Troy Smith is now at 165.1...and only Drew Olson (UCLA), Brian Brohm (Lousiville), Justin Holland (CSU), Matt Leinart (USC), and Marcus Vick (VT)...went into today with higher QB ratings.

Looks like Drew Stanton had a 22/30 252 yards 1 TD 1 INT day...which gives him a modest 148 rating today...but that will drop him a little bit.

Therefore...the new #1 QB in passing efficiency in the Big 10....TROY SMITH!!!

Believe it! He's become as efficiant of a passer as anybody in the country! I mean...13 TDs with only 3 INTs? And we wanted to bench this guy for Justin Zwick?!?! I wouldn't bench this guy for anybody in the Big 10 right now!

Olson is sucking, too, so that should help TS.

Leinart's is done for the day...going 22/28 with 4 TDs and 0 INTs...so here is the top 5 after today if my calculations are correct.

#1 Matt Leinart, USC 170.5
#2 Brian Brohm, Louisville 165.3
#3 Vince Young, Texas 165.2
#4 Troy Smith, Ohio State 165.1
#5 Brady Quinn, Notre Dame 162.3

Notice how Troy Smith in virtually tied for 2nd with VY, and Brohm, with only .2 seperating them. I think people need to start paying attention to how efficient our passing game is...and our running game has been awesome for weeks now.

Aside from the passer rating, Troy Smith looked great as a winning QB today. He came out after a somewhat average 1st half and played well. He's looking more and more consistant, which is I think what this offense needs. When was the last time we had a steady QB playing to win the game? It looks like we have someone to count on all 4 quarters that can throw the ball.

Here are the top-5 in passing efficiency, I'm assuming Quinn is 6th.

I posted this in the Henton thread but I will move it over here and add yesterday's numbers. Yesterday's game is further proof that Troy is developing as a QB. Look at the trend:

14 completions versus 14 rushing attempts against SDSU
13 completions versus 18 rushing attempts against Iowa
13 completions versus 19 rushing attempts against Penn State
10 completions versus 7 rushing attempts against Michigan State
14 completions versus 12 rushing attempts against Indiana
14 completions versus 11 rushing attempts against Minnesota
13 completions versus 7 rushing attempts against Illinois

1st three games: as many or more rushes than completions (40 completions/51 rushes)
Next four games: more completions than rushes (51 completions/37 rushes)
conclusion: Troy is using his feet more as a means of being a mobile QB, rather than being a pure runner

I am so impressed with how Troy has improved and is now surveying the field and using his feet as well as his arm to find open receivers, instead of tucking the ball after looking at one or two receivers. He is becoming one of the elite QBs in the B10 if not the country.

If he didn't have the best receivers in the land... his stats would differ...

His stats do surprise me for a QB that STARES at ONE receiver.. and virtully never goes down his progression... Stats would be obscene if he did look at secondary receivers...

Contrary to Tressel, I would like to see him pull it down and run more...
