QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

glad to hear carpenter come out and say what i figured most of the team was probably thinking.

there were a lot of knuckleheads on here that were suggesting that troy was letting his teammates down by his "me-me-me" attitude. carpenter's comments prove that to be total bullshit, and that the players on the team are behind troy 100 percent. they don't really give a fuck if one of their boys breaks some ridiculous, stupid rule.

Great work Tressel... I want Smith to start as much as anyone but he handled this just right. One thing I'm curious about is if Troy practiced during one or two of the practices inbetween the media-allowed days.

His chin aside, Smith's improving

Sunday, October 30, 2005Doug Lesmerises
Plain Dealer Reporter
Minneapolis- Troy Smith sat quietly on the bench as the clock ticked down, a white bandage covering his entire lower chin. A tackle on a second-down run in the second quarter forced Smith to get stitches Saturday and left him feeling sore enough not to speak with reporters after Ohio State's 45-31 victory over Minnesota.
But his teammates talked for him, admiring again the quarterback's generalship as he led an offense that scored five touchdowns and wracked up 449 yards against the Gophers. Smith's growing comfort and confidence is the most obvious change in the offense over the last several games.
Guard Rob Sims heard Smith tell his receivers to make sharper cuts on their routes Saturday, one example of his expanding control of the field.
"He's gotten better as the season has gone on," Sims said.
Other than one bounced third-down throw to Ted Ginn Jr., coach Jim Tressel found little wrong with Smith's day, which included a 70 percent completion percentage, 233 yards, three touchdowns and no turnovers.
Tressel was especially enthused about his final touchdown pass, a 30-yarder to Holmes when he pulled the ball down, scrambled left and then found Holmes all alone.
"I got so excited because the guy looked open and then just as he went, he saw how they spun their coverage," Tressel said. "To his credit, he didn't let it go. It could have been a problem. And then he held it long enough to make the big play. I think Troy's command has come along day by day."
