QB Todd Boeckman (official thread)

OHIO STATE FOOTBALL
Transition smooth for Boeckman

Fifth-year junior's experience has eased his move from scout-team to starting QB.

Comment: How do you think Boeckman is doing?

COLUMBUS ? Todd Boeckman knows what it's like to have hulking defensive linemen pursuing him as if he had just stolen their wallets, but that's not the biggest change he's faced since going from being a scout-team quarterback to Ohio State's starter.
Boeckman has had to make split-second decisions in an opposing stadium with the decibel level rising high enough to drown out a police siren, but that hasn't been the most dramatic adjustment, either.

The only knock I really have with Todd right now is that he appears to be throwing where the receivers are not where theyre going to be, hence the over and underthrows. There shouldnt be any reason why Todd wouldn't know the speed and route running by all of his receivers at this point. He appears to read the defense very well and throws only a few passes he should hold onto. Prototypical Jim Tressel QB as far as I'm concerned. Dont forget he's very tough and his leadership has started to show itself during games as well.

Robiskie made his TD catch, the pass to Hartline was absolutely perfect.

The fade routes are usually all touch so that doesnt bother me as much when he overthrows those. Its the 10 yard in and crossing routes that he overthrows where a safety might be lurking that I hate to see.

 at how this thread started.
October 2004 was not BP's finest month. It's really quite comical how everybody always busts out the chicken little stuff now and tells the whiners to go back to bucknuts, then you dig up these '04 threads and everybody is a coach complaining about Bollman not using a blocking sled and that neither Zwick or Smith will ever amount to anything, so its time to burn Boeckman's red shirt with five games to go, see what he's got, shake up the OLine, and maybe fire Bollman too.

Couldn't agree more. I started lurking on this board back then...but mostly was on BSB/Rivals, etc...Oct 2004 was a dire time in general - we weren't getting the job done on the field and I think part of that was due to cycling out the last few players from Coop's era and bringing together all of the young true juniors and redshirt sophomores from Tress' crown jewel 2002 recruiting class.

It was a matter of time until that class would click...and boy did it ever click! I remember hearing Spielman and Ricordati clamor for Boeckman on 1460. I know Todd has only been a starter for 5 games, but he has far exceeded my expectations - I figured we would struggle early this year and finish in a similar fashion to the 2004 year.

Gray/Red shirting Todd was in the best interests of both the program and Todd himself.

Following orders can be costly for QB

COLUMBUS ? Ohio State quarterback Todd Boeckman did his best to follow his coaches' orders. But after throwing three interceptions on deep passes against Purdue, he might be wondering whether someone handed him the wrong instructions.
The Buckeyes figured the Boilermakers would load up against the run and might be vulnerable to bombs, and Boeckman was encouraged by his coaches to take shots downfield, even when his receivers were tightly covered.
