Slightly different, since both were already on the team......so nobody could reasonably be upset about pursuing the other. There was no pursuit, it was just a choice between two current members of the same team. Was it worth it to go with Haskins over Burrow?
Although it’s not a direct correlation, I think the players reaction to Bosa sitting out the season is a possible indication of how they might respond- they understand that at the end of the day many decisions are business decisions for players at Ohio State.Slightly different, since both were already on the team......so nobody could reasonably be upset about pursuing the other. But yes. That was absolutely worth it.
I watched several games over the last week. There's just something about watching Ohio State beat the living daylights out of TSUN that makes me feel that something is still right in the world. As I said earlier in this thread, I want very badly to believe that Tate Martell is all that. However, I still haven't seen anything that made me feel that he is. I get that I don't see him in practice and that you need to build an offense around his skill set. I also saw the missed block in the TSUN game. So, I leave it to the coaches.
Agree but even if Tate is all world you still HAVE to bring in Fields if you can becausethis is kind of where I’m at. if Ryan Day has coached him for two years and is in favor of bringing Fields in to compete for the job, that speaks volumes to me.
Very much my thoughts exactly.Agree but even if Tate is all world you still HAVE to bring in Fields if you can because
a) QB depth and experience is critically low
b) you never turn down Fields type talent.
I hope Tate turns into a total stud and does big things. He just needs to be prepared to compete and win the job no matter what. And if he wins it he better be prepared to be a leader in all the little ways he will need to be.
To me, none of them have proven much at all, Fields, Baldwin, nor Tate.
Fully agreed. Not sure how people are saying already that Tate is going to transfer based on Fields. All 3 QBs at OSU have done next to nothing in college up until this point, so all should be treated equally and all have to fight for 1st team reps. Not sure where people are basing Fields having more talent than Tate or Baldwin based off of HS rankingsI haven't really been following people's take on all this but it's hard for me to believe there is anything other than this right here.
- You take a Fields level talent when it drops in your lap no matter what.
- Make all 3 compete in the spring. Fields hasn't proven anything more at the college level than Martell has.
- The program wins by finding the best man for the job from a deeper pool of competitive talent.
- What's best for the program is what Day has to work for, regardless of how he feels about any individual.
- Deal with any shake out from the new depth chart later.
