QB Tathan Martell (transfer to Miami, transfer to UNLV)

Tate was used as the backup as Baldwin red shirted. Supposedly during the practices leading up to the bowl Baldwin had performed extremely well and was pushing Tate. Was Tate a potential starter (both before and after Fields)? Yes. Was he the potential starter? Maybe.
You state your opinions as facts, and then call anyone who disagrees biased. You avoid facts that don't align with your narrative. Gotcha. Now I understand how this conversation works.
1. I never stated my opinion as a fact.
2. I never disregarded any facts.
3. I don't have a narrative.

which given his history of big talk then walking away means what? He wants to get to a new school without a QB so he can be the man... as far as leaving and waivers/grad transfer .. thats all on him .. he chose not to compete for the job after smack talk and I guess contrary to other rumors didn’t have himself lined up to graduate this spring... so my question to you.. if he was leaving anyways (as it looks) WHY would he stick around and not go to his new school immediately?
I actually agree with this 100%. My point is that by seeking a waiver, it makes it look as if he may have been told after he shot his mouth off, that he did not have a good chance of starting.

What possibly could be the basis for his waiver? That he didn't graduate in time?
Coach left him high and dry. On one hand.....boo fucking hoo. Coaches leave all the time, and in this case the guy that replaced him was the OC and QB coach, so it's not like you'd expect turmoil. On the other hand.......why are kids bound to a school while not getting paid, but coaches and leave as a DC, go be a head coach for 2 days, then come back and be head coach at the original school with nobody batting an eye?

I believe he is seeking the waiver on the basis of the coaching change. I think it is a pretty weak ass argument - IMO.

Him seeking a waiver IMHO is him not wanting to wait and get recruited passed over.... and 0 to do with Ohio State situation (which btw while likely we DONT know if Fields will be eligible, which means he might be runnin from Baldwin as well) which might happen anyways...

I think it's weak if you look at it from the standpoint of how the NCAA has operated for so long. But if you look at it from the bullshit standpoint that these kids are locked down for the sole reason of lining the pockets of rich adults.......not so much.

Yep. It seems as though he has fallen out of favor regardless. Possibly a consequence of his tweets?

I'm against paying players (but for having a minor league option for them out of high school), but I absolutely think transfer rules are BS. Just open up the floodgates and be done with it. It's not going to change all that much.

best thing i’ve seen is 1 undergrad transfer allowed without penalty as long as you’re on track... i think thats a good rule

Im with you but I can see it also as he doesn’t fit the Day scheme nearly as much as the Meyer scheme. The coaching change excuse is more on the side of I don’t fit new coach, rather than my old coach left.

Edit: I don’t think he gets a waiver based off of not fitting a new coach’s schemes. It will be presented as Meyer leaving, if that’s the route he wants to take. I just don’t really think it is the real reason IMO.
