I've seen many adult professionals, many of whom actually are quite competent, working for smaller less complex organizations than OSU football overestimate their standing with their boss(es) and/or within the organization and react less than ideally in the short-term when they get an unpleasant and surprising dose of reality. And I doubt that those of us who weren't weaned on Twitter/Snapchat ... really understand how instinctual a form of communication it is for the young people. I've also seen many managers/bosses make their own lives easier in the short-term by not being entirely forthright with employees who may be "overconfident". Point being simply that if that's how things went down, I've got a lot of leeway in my heart for Tate, especially since he's now chilled and seems to be moving on in a positive manner. As far as unfavorable comparisons to Burrow go, Joe's a coach's kid and has likely been hardwired from birth to "trust the coaches" and he also had the benefit of being beaten out by Haskins, whose talent he saw every day and had also put in time at OSU and not some newbie hotshot who, BTW, might be trying to mack on his sister. To steal from Chris Rock, I'm not saying Tate was right, but I understand.
